Did you participate in a Corpus Christi procession this year? If so, was it at your parish or elsewhere? How was it, and did you have any particular role in it? Vote and post! Photos welcome!

Our parish always has one after our Choir Mass on Sunday morning. We process to 2 outdoor altars and have Benediction at each, before returning to the Church for a final Benediction at the High Altar. Recent first communicants spread flower petals, the Knights of Columbus Color Guard led the way, servers with incense and candles and crucifix, two priests and a deacon, and everybody else following! We also had a potluck afterwards. This makes 21 years in a row. Father likes to say he has a special deal with Jesus and St. Anthony and it never gets rained out.

I had the distinct privilege of being one of the four men holding the canopy over the priest with the Blessed Sacrament this year. We weren’t vested but wore ties, white shirts, black pants. Amazing! Unfortunately I don’t have any photos but I’m trying to get some from the photographers.

No, because we were visiting my son’s family at Twentnine Palms, Cal. The Base chapel did not have a procession. There were First Communions. 20 children. It was a very modern OF Mass. Well done homily and lots of parents and visitors. Just a bit too modern for me. But 2 of my grand daughters received for the first time.

Yes, I went to the TLM Parish near me and we had a very simple, but beautiful, procession after
Mass; we went around the block singing hymns, then into the Church for Benediction. It was very beautiful.

Yes, we marched around the church to four select stations in honor of saints or of the Blessed Virgin. I actually had to serve and it was really nice.

Sounds nice, yeah, the FSSP community here also had a procession, and there was a procession with the bishop at the Cathedral. I don’t think any other parishes in the area had processions.

We had one at our parish. They wanted to go outdoors with it and around to the “Mary garden,” but we had heavy rains last night and the ground was really boggy. So they stayed indoors. And I stayed on the organ bench, my usual spot. 🙂

No, as today was not Corpus Christi in the Byzantine Church.

Yes, I did. Absolutely. Not only that: I was a server. Had it not been so windy, I’d have been bearing the baldacchino. Our outdoor procession was cancelled, so we processed inside, and I was a candle-bearer.

I loved it.

No, unfortunately none of the parishes around where I live had one. It would have been nice.

We didn’t have one.Just as well, it poured. We didn’t have the sequence ‘Lauda Sion’ either. I’ll have to fossick out the Mendelsohn version. I last heard it live in the London Oratory, Brompton, in 1954.

I was just wondering:

For those who had a procession following Mass, did this cause many people to leave right after Holy Communion? I know many received and left. I also saw some people actually leave during the procession when the procession was walking through the parking lot. I just don’t understand why people find it such a burden to stay for the procession and show some respect. I mean, THAT’S JESUS RIGHT THERE! 🤷

I’m pretty sure nearly everyone stayed at our parish. Those who could not walk well enough for the procession were given the option of remaining in the church and waiting for the final Benediction that took place there.

Father really doesn’t put up with people leaving after Communion!

No, our bishop illicitly forbade us from having a TLM on that day, and we are never given enough time by the pastor of the church (who is not our celebrant) to do such things. We are given a certain time to start and must be finished in 1 hour. We are always in trouble because we run over 15 minutes. We take what we can get. Would have loved to have celebrated Corpus Christi.

At our parish, the procession did not begin immediately following Mass. There was about 45 minutes between the last morning Mass and the procession. So people either hung around after the last Mass or went to an earlier Mass and came back especially for the procession. Most of the people that were there wanted to be there (except for maybe a couple of pre-teens but even they didn’t seem to mind it all that bad). And you can see from the video that I posted that there were a few hundred people in attendance. I’m really pleased to see so many young people and families that are grateful for their Catholic faith and are striving to learn more and participate in the life of the Church. They are an inspiration.

Well, ours went a little different.

We had noon mass, then Adoration until 4. THEN we processed.

The bishop came to our home. Our procession lasted an hour even in the rain.

That is WONDERFUL. Our Lord deserves a little pomp and circumstance.

I actually felt bad for Him, that we didn’t get to process outside… and that we didn’t have enough people to clog a street like you did… what I really feel bad about is that Corpus Christi processions used to shut down entire CITIES.

I yearn for a return to days like this:

There was no procession, even around the inside of the church. There was no benediction, no exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for adoration. Our parish doesn’t even have a monstrance. There was nothing special done for Corpus Christi and I sorely missed it.
