To All CAF Members,

I think we need a break from debating or do apologetic topics. They can become very intense at times, and many of us can lose their charity and write down things against a forum member that was not fully intended.

Anyways, I would like to start a thread describing the difference of all three major branch of Christianity, Catholicism, Protestantism, and Eastern Orthodox.

Please point out what we all have in common. Feel free to add addition numbers.
Point out the difference and also feel free to add additional numbers.

  1. Final Judgement
  2. God, Christ, and Holy Spirit are one

  5. Reading scripture, singing during church service

  4. Christ’s redemptive work on the cross.

Differences
  1. Canon of scripture
  2. Baptism (infant/believer’s/immersion/sprinkle)
  3. Marian dogmas
    4, Church authority
  4. Predestination/free will
 
Similarities:

1.The Trinity (Most, but not all, Protestants agree with the Trinity)
2.The majority of the Canon.
3.Literal belief in Heaven and Hell (Most Protestants believe literally, I think)
4.Original sin
5.Salvation by grace alone
6.Faith proven true by works (I think that some Protestants disagree and believe Sola Fide, or easy-believism)
7.Purgatory (Protestants just think it’s instantaneous and call it “glorification”)

Contrasts:

1.Sacramental worldview (Some Lutherans have it)
2.The Marian trappings
3.The Communion of saints
4.The seven sacraments, Protestants have only two.
5.Apostolic Succession (Protestants abandoned it)
6.The Real Presence of Jesus in our churches (Protestants just have a spiritual or symbolic view)
7.The papacy
