I have been brought up with the rosary for years and then in the 70s the charismatic praying or, spirit filled pray groups.
So I enjoy also the lives of the saints and DON’T find any difference between the spiritual prayers of the saints and… the prayers of spirit filled catholics who allow the Holy Spirit to lead.

Other than…wait… the depth of the saints in their giving of themself to God and it is God who choses who willand will not be used as a saint, not us.
So … what is all this about CP , Contemplation… when we have it all in the spirit filled prayer lives anyway???
What we need is letting the Holy Spirit have the chance to lead.
NO?

We might know what we need, but how we receive the need is different from one person to the other.

How do you let the Holy Spirit lead you?

I am thinking that letting the Holy Spirit guide us is the main core of our spiritual life but there are many ways the Holy Spirit guide us and there are many ways we seek His guidiance.

There are nuns and there are other religious sisters; there are monks who live in the mountains and others in the city. Each has different life style which helps them grow spiritually. Each will be guided by the Holy Spirit through wilderness, through people, etc …

Got to agree with water here - great as the Rosary is, great as the Charismatic Renewal may be (don’t know a lot about it, I’m afraid), there is no one thing that’ll do the job for everyone in terms of bringing them to contemplation (which isn’t a style of prayer, it’s a state of being while in prayer, and can happen with any form of prayer).

St Teresa of Avila, the great Doctor on mysticism, herself said that her prayer life only reached its height when she went beyond solely saying formal prayers including the Rosary and Liturgy of the Hours, which were pretty much all she did in her childhood.

Now this is why I wrote this thanks both of you Lillym my neighbour across the ditch. I have been waiting to hear this for some time, thanks both. My heart rests in the Lord that others have faith in Our Lord and the Holy Spirit as the spirit leads.
Thanks.

But one should not let “the Holy Spirit” lead him out of Catholic church though. It is not the Holy Spirit’s leading. 🙂

I am saying this because some people claim to be lead by the Holy Spirit and they act upon this without guidance.

What you have writen, that “the Holy Spirit will lead you out”
then “it is not the Holy Spirit”, they contradict.
I have never and will not atvocate the Holy Spirit leading any person out of any church if it is deffinitly christian.

This is NOT the reason for this thread. We should keep on the track of spiritual relationships and at present I am relating mainly to catholics, my being in the catholic religion.

In the lives of the saints I have read how their spiritual relationship with God becomes so high that they seem to have no sin (or gravity) to hold them down, in an essence at times they seem to float in mid air. They must let go so much of their humanness. How do we gain this spiritual ability to let go, I believe that it must come from self denial relating more and more to letting go and letting God take over.

If you have noticed, this phrase is in quote “the Holy Spirit” from my post.

I meant to sound contradicting. I was trying to say it is not always the Holy Spirit as you think. Allowing the Holy Spirit guide you without a guidance, for instance a spiritual director, one can be lead by a devil.

Am I out of topic here?

This is my very point I believe that in building a RELATIONSHIP with God is more importaint that saying any formal prayer.
Just imagin if we were to speak to God in formal ways then I gaurentee that He would get bored because where would the relationship be? Look at what St terese said, Listen to what Jesus tells us.

St Teresa of Avila, the great Doctor on mysticism, herself said that ***her prayer life only reached its height when she went beyond solely saying formal prayers ***
including the Rosary and Liturgy of the Hours, which were pretty much all she did in her childhood.
I believe that this that is being asked, is for God’s children to build a “relationship” where there is speaking to each other and listening to each other.

I agree with you water I have seen where some say it is God and others say nothing at all, not wanting to be found out. I have been asked why I am in the catholic church and on testing or discerning the same people who questioned were told by the Holy Spirit to tell me it is God’s will that I be here, and there was no more questioning. The answer was so loud and they could not dispute it, but could not understand why? God told them if they did not tell me then it would be on their shoulders.

God tells us in the bible to be still and know that He is God, He does not want people moving around it is not ability but availability that God wants. There is so much to do in the catholic church.

God bless.

But I meant to also make the point that this can happen WITHIN formal prayer as well - St Padre Pio for one prayed the Rosary very frequently and called it ‘THE weapon’ - I’m sure his relationship with God wasn’t hampered in the slightest by doing so 🙂

Obviously formal prayer has a very important place - otherwise why the commandment to worship in the formal liturgy of the Mass on Sundays? Why the constant exhortations by Our Lady to pray the Rosary? Or Our Lord’s revelation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet to St Faustina?

So it’s not a situation where any style of prayer hampers our relationship with God - any sincere prayer is certainly worthwhile, whether formal or informal in nature. Although different styles can certainly be more or less helpful for different people.

Yes I don’t disregard these formal prayers and funny my wife does not pray openly with me unless we pray the rosery. She would rather Amen my prayers but does pray in toungs often as I also do.
Jesus tells us to prayer the Lords Prayer. So you must have a strong point. I guess what I am saying is that in the catholic prayer cycles, the style of talking to God, going into the spirit like the saints seemed to have, and praising openly seem not to find a strong representation in the catholic gatherings. So I guess what i might be leading to is that we seem at times (generalisation) to follow the other.
Know what I mean? Well!!

Godbless anyway.
