What is the difference between wearing a medal of a saint and asking a saint for prayer request?

It isn’t practical and probably not desirable to spend all day saying the litany of St. John the Baptist, but you could associate yourself with the saint all through the day by wearing his medal. Praying forces you to be more specific and takes more effort than wearing a medal.

You wear a medal of your choice for protection/devotion.

Asking a saint for prayer request means which particular saint will help you in whichever particular saint is known for.
