Hello:
I came to this site primarily because I wanted, as a believer in Messianic Judaism, to point out what I consider some basic issues because of the web posting about the differences between the Roman Catholic Church, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and the differeces that we in the Messianic Jewish community have with both denominations.

First, let me say, that I feel that the SDA view that Christians can sort of pick and choose which of the Laws of Moses they wish to keep, is, in itself, an error. However, I also find that Catholic view that the Law of Moses, which I think your denomination says are to continue beyond Christ into the the period covered by the establishment of the Church, is correct. However, I feel that the Catholic commuion’s idea that Christ somehow gave Peter, at that time a disciple of Christ’s the right to change God’s only and unchanging Law, very erroneous, indeed.

The text referred to is an almost strange interchange between Jeshua (Jesus) and Petros (a “rolling stone” as opposed to “Petra,” a large, strong rock or rocky monolith), mentions Christ’s telling Peter that He gave to Peter the “Keys” of the Kingdom. My brothers, “keys” merely means “knowledge” which Yeshua had already given to Peter, and the rest of the disciples.

The knowledge was what Jesus (Yeshua) had given to Moshe (Moses) on Mt. Sinai, located by the way in northern Saudi Arabia. This included Leviticus 23, in which He (God the Son) not only wrote the Ten Commandments with His pre-incarnate Finger, but dictated to Moses, His statutes and judgements, which included God’s only and everlasting Calendar of holy days, periods of time, and special sabbaths, which he said they should deep “forever.”

Jesus told His followers, after He had wiped away all the tiny, minute, regulations that caused His people to actually break the Law of Love (the Law of Moses), that “But, when they sit in Moses’ seat in the synagogues, LISTEN to them and DO what they SAY.” This was, in simple language, what Jesus meant when He said He gave to Peter, and by proxy, all His disciples, to not only teach, but to make decisions regarding conflicted situations that He knew would arise among the new followers of His only religion. All of them were Torah-observant Jews.

Paul, the Apostle, at Corinth, “tarried to keep the feast.” This was Passover, with the complete, according the first four Gospels, Sedar meal, but WITHOUT the cooked lamb, slain the previous day. Jeshua, Himself, inaugurated the Feast today called Hanukkha, the Feast of Dedication. He walked in Solomon’s Porch at the Temple in Jerusalem to do this. The body is, today, the “Temple of the Holy Spirit.”

All the other festivals, or as God put it, "My holy convocations, all, if one looks carefully at what God said about each one in Leviticus, and nearby books, contain not only remembrances of God’s work, but prophetically as written in the New Testament where Yeshua brought prophetic, therefore spiritual meaning to each of them, His own Stamp. This was the set of “keys” that the Jewish preople missed, not only in the moral Law, but in the very religious calendar He gave to Moses. The additional meaning that Jesus gave to the Feast days and sabbaths, was not new. He lived the Law of Moses that He gave, to show His first people, and by them, the rest of the world, how to live.

Thus, the Catholic Church is in error when it claims to have been empowered to change any aspect of God’s Law “and the prophets.” They are right to say that the Law of Moses continues, but wrong to say Jeshua gave Peter the right to change any aspect of the written Torah, minus the sacrificial system, and the special washings, and other rules about how to handle the lamb at sacrifice time.

The entire priesthood is now in Heaven, with Yeshua Hamaschiach in the Most Holy Place, where He uses His own blood as propitiation for our sins. The only part of the Law now remaining is the Moral Law, which contains the Ten Commandments, and the written Torah which explains how God expects His True Jews (believers in the only perfect Jew, Christ who said of Himself that He is “the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.”

The unchanging Law of God is the standard by which He will judge all mankind after the millenium which follows His Second Coming at or near a future Yom Tarouha (the Feast of Trumpets).

The SDA’s need to simply say that the Law of God, minus the temporary Sanctuary services which was all about the sacrificial system, continues. Right now, they say it all ended, but that they can pick and choose which ones, besides the Ten Commandments, they want to keep.

The Catholic Church needs to go back to the days which God, Himself gave and said were to last “forever.” God is God. He is unchanging, even when faced with the largest communion of believers in Yeshua on earth.

Now, there will come a time when Hasatan, himself, will impersonate Christ’s Second Coming. He will say to people that he changed His Law. But, beware, his feet will touch the earth, and he will not be omnipresent. That will be the “key” to those who know the Revelation, that that “Jesus” is the prophecied Great Deceiver. Do not go there where it is said he is. He is cunning and wise, as a serpant. The results of believing him will mean absolute disaster for those who follow his spoken similitudes of the real Christ.

Shalom Alecheim

I am just curious why you would use the Aramaic name for Jesus, but the Greek name for Peter.
Wouldn’t you argument be more consistent if you used both the Aramaic names for both Jesus and Peter?
Jeshua (Jesus) and Kepha (Peter)

Oh, wait, I get it. Kepha just means rock and there isn’t a difference in Aramaic, that would blow your argument.
But even if you use the name Greek name “Petros”, from what we can tell now, petros, petra, and kepha all just meant “rock” in the first century.

Hollow Peter???

Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

Well if “key’s” merely means “knowledge”, then this “knowledge” gave Peter the power that what he bound on earth would be bound in heaven.
Look to Isaiah 22:22 and see the similarity of the wording:
I will place the key of the House of David on his shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut, when he shuts, no one shall open.
Those keys were keys of authority, not just knowledge.

I would suggest you do a little research on the location of where this exchange between Jesus and Peter took place (Caesarea Philippi), it has quite a significance in the meaning of what Jesus was teaching here.

These are just a few facts: it is a huge rock (100 feet high) that a temple to the god “Pan” (god of shepherds) was built, it is the head waters of the river Jordan, the pool is so very deep that it was called the gates of the netherworld, ect…
