Different colored hands?

I found an icon of St. Joseph on a Melkite Church’s website and am curious as to why St. Joseph has a white hand on a very dark body. Is there a story or symbolism I am missing?

It is not a hand, but I am not sure what it is? A scroll? A piece of wood? The top of a cane or staff? Why is his left hand (apparently) wrapped in his cloak?

He’s holding a scroll. Frequently, I’ve seen it read, "Behold, the Virgin shall conceive…"

I’m not sure why I thought it was a hand. Anyway, the previous post makes sense, but if anyone else knows anything, please let us know.

I believe it is a lily, coming out of the sleeve of his cloak. The lily is often a symbol of St. Joseph.

This is in the Western church. In the East, St. Joseph is most often shown holding 2 turtle doves that he offered as a sacrifice in the Temple at the Presentation.
