Different Parishes, Different Practices

My two most memorable experiences: Attending a Mass at a small church in Quebec, entirely in French, with the most beautiful singing I have ever heard.

I did that last summer and that’s where I experienced that Redemptionis Sacramentum-forbidden ‘fractioning of the Host’ at the words “he took bread, broke it”.

I’d never experienced that before and that sound made my head snap up to look to see if I’d actually heard what I thought I did. Yes, there was that concelebration Host in 2 pieces being elevated by the priest. The celebrant wasn’t their pastor, IIRC, he was replacing while their pastor was on holidays.

[edited] IMHO, in practice, in the real world, not on some document, if the priest allows/practices it and the bishop is OK with it, such practices are going to continue to happen, regardless of what’s in the GIRM, or any other decree, letter, etc.

If someone doesn’t like it, speak with the Pastor, write a letter, but the bottom line is that if a practice is going on in a parish and you like it, great. If something bothers you, for the most part if you don’t have to travel far, go do a different parish.

Re. the Creed, it depends where the OP lives. In English Canada we have an indult for the Apostles Creed its use is the norm. Why? I haven’t a clue. In French we usually use the Nicene.

When the new translations are implemented, there will be a choice to use either Creed, although the rubrics suggest the Apostles Creed be especially used during Lent and Easter time because of its connection to Baptism.
