Does anyone else find praying a rosary in church difficult? Even if no one else is present I feel I need to whisper , and having to whisper takes focus away from mediation . Also I’m worried if someone else is there my whispering annoys them if they’re close

Any tips with this would be helpful please

If this bothers you then say the Rosary silently. First praying the Rosary is not a requirement, albeit strongly recommended, and second it is not required to pray out loud.

Sorry I should’ve specified, I don’t know how to mediate on the mysteries if I’m saying the vocal prayers in my head . As in I can’t think both things at once

When I pray in the Church, I will often pray the Sorrowful Mysteries. I use the images on the Stations of the Cross located around the Church as I pray. When praying Marian mysteries, I simply look at the statue of Mary.

Meditating on the mysteries can be as simple as pausing at each decade to visualize that mystery, then, go on to praying the prayers in your head. It is not required to hold a mental image in your head every moment!

YouTube has a scriptural rosary with bible verses at the beginning of each Our Father and Hail Mary to meditate on. You could use earphones and pray along silently in your head.

Just search Scriptural Rosary.

After a while, you may find that the prayers go into the “background” (almost as if you were “remembering” the words rather than “pronouncing them with your interior voice”). When that happens, your “foreground” is more pliable to focus on the meditation.

At the beginning, the opposite usually happens: we make a direct effort to pray, while “inside” we have background thoughts and distractions.

It helps me, when that happens, to focus on the prayers and try to say them with as much love as possible. I am sure in time I’ll be able to meditate on the mysteries more effectively.

Before Mass, I pray the Rosary. There are many distractions, including people walking in, babies trying, the choir practicing before Mass, etc.
I just do my best to focus on the BVM and say that prayers as softly as I can.

Similar situation here…i can either vocally/mentally recite the prayers or consider the mystery, not both. I tried thinking while praying and would end up with 5 or 15 'hail mary’s, never 10. A rosary would take 40 mins which is too long to me because if i’m honest, i don’t like the rosary as a form of personal prayer.

The local Dominican’s have Adoration and rosary every saturday. There is a scriptural passage related to the mystery and 2-3mins of silence to reflect on it and then the vocal recitation happens. I think that is a good way to do it.

praying the rosary silently takes time and practice. dont worry. if this is a skill you want in your prayer life it will come to you it just takes time. it tends to be more contemplative because it is difficult. just dont forget to breathe.

You could check to see if there is a group praying the rosary and what time. A group in our parish prays the rosary daily after Mass.

Peace and God Bless
Nicene
