I am working on a comic for my job at a design agency. They write it, and I draw it. The main character is a woman who wants to be a scientist, and I am seriously struggling with scrupulosity with it because of all the traditional teachings on what Women should and shouldn’t do.
Almost none of these things I would scrupe over would make sense to normal conservative Catholics, but I’ve surfed the web long enough to know that there is always a saying by a Saint that corroborates an opinion that it is a sin to do something that is considered an indifferent matter in our present age. According to the story, they want a picture of the Girl as a gymnast, and I’m sure there will be other incidents that I will somehow worry about as being improper for a woman to do.
I just got hired by the agency, and while I know that Christ is more important than my job, I have told my Mother that I would not endanger myself without speaking with my Spiritual Director about taking a drastic course of action. I wanted to ask for prayer that I would overcome scrupulosity, and if there is really a moral issue that I must take a stand on, that I would be gentle and firm in standing for it.
