Dilemma: TLM and my current parish

I would like to attend a Tridentine Latin Mass that’s actually conveniently close to my house, but I’m also very well acquainted with the people at my current parish, which only does NO Mass. My current parish, while not as traditional as I would like, is by all means an excellent one; I have not observed a single liturgical abuse or avoiding moral issues by the clergy. I wish I could attend both but I don’t think I have the time to.

Any thoughts on the matter?

Maybe you could to alternate for a while: one week here, one week there.

You may not be able to attend both every Sunday, but you can still stay involved in both. It seems that the EF is not celebrated too often as a daily Mass, so you can still attend your current parish for that. You can also stay active in any other groups you may belong to (KoC, Legion of Mary, etc.)

Have you spoken to your current pastor? Is there any possibility of that parish also celebrating the EF? There is a parish near us that celebrates the OF on Sundays and the EF for certain occasions, one being First Friday evening Mass. We have attended that parish specifically for that Mass for many months while still being active in our home OF parish.

RosaryCrusader, would you be willing to take the same challenge for the Byzantine Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom or that of another Eastern Catholic Church?

As partial as I am to the Tridentine Mass (EF),I think if attending the OF is more to your spiritual advantage, then stick to it. It’s not always easy to find crowds that you’re comfortable with. In fact, attendance of an EF may be seen as a betrayal against your existing friends and family and I don’t think that’s good in the long run.

Besides, there are always tapes and DVDs available where you can get your EF fix by watching them.

I find myself in the same situation and have been discussing some issues on another thread. I think you should be open to the Holy Spirit here. If He is leading you to traditional Mass, then don’t fight it or feel obliged to go to your parish for the sake of other people. They are important but your spiritual growths is more important. (I feel like I should take my own advice now, hmmm).
Basically, I’ve decided to alternate for a while and see what happens. I might continue to do so, or maybe will feel called to TLM only. I definitely don’t want to cut ties with my parish and my involvement in some charity things we do because that is important too. I’ve hinted to some people that I have a developing interest in traditional Mass and most have not been very impressed with that. I guess I have to show them that I am serious about our work although I don’t go to parish Mass exclusively anymore.

ProVobis, your advice is harmful and ego driven. Mass is not about getting a “fix” or about feeling “comfortable”. It’s not about ME - it’s about God.

The Mass is not “betrayal” to your friends or family - I’m sorry but this is probably one of the stupidest things I’ve read on Catholic Answers. Unless your friends are satanists the Mass would never be considered as “betrayal.”
