Mother Ann informed me that " In Carmelite we do little things/work for the love of Jesus."
The main “work” of a Carmelite is Prayer and Sacrifice.
I really like the way Reverend Mother Prioress and all her daughters in Carmel from St. Agatha, ON. explains.

When I visited them I stayed in the Guest House with Sister Therese. We had our own rooms/cells. My room/cell had a bed, chair, night table, lamp, night light, an alarm clock (which I had to remove I couldn’t stand the ticking), clear plastic storage drawers, closet picture of Jesus, and an absolutely stunning view.
I’m sorry I don’t really know what you mean by
strict? I suppose everyone has their own views of what strict means.
Carmelites live in strict papal enclosure as desired by St. Teresa and given by the Church.

Yes, the Sisters of the Carmel of St. Joseph always had a smile upon their face and I remember Sister’s laughing and enjoying themselves.
What love, dedication, and zeal they have for Our Lord, Our Lady, and all of God’s people.
roselily and anyone- I’m sorry I can’t accurately answer all of your questions since I didn’t visit/stay at Carmel of St. Joseph very long. I have another post explaining. Another reason some may have a different answer than me just like some may very well have a different call. *It is also best to ask the Discalced Carmelite Nuns your questions and concerns.
Just remember that the Carmelite Nuns (and all religious) are Praying for you and for me. How wonderful is that? Praised Be to God.
God bless,
