Discerning mortal sin

I went to communion today not sure if I was under mortal sin.

If you are talking to someone and are trying to avoid making statements deemed sinful or judgmental, but only after the conversation you begin to feel you were still judgmental or insensitive? Are you guilty of a sin if you were trying to avoid sinning, but may have sinned anyway and only realized it later?

Are you guilty of a serious sin or no?

In order to commit a mortal sin one must first know that there is grave matter involved and then give full consent of the will. In your description I cannot find any grave matter and it is quite obvious that you did not know nor did you give full consent since you are this confused. I had a priest once tell me that if you are confused as to whether or not you committed a mortal sin chances are pretty good that you didn’t.

I think that you are a bit scrupulous here but only you can know the true object of what you said. No one here can judge your soul but with the information that you provided I would have to lean towards a venial sin if any sin at all. This is always best discussed with a priest but if it were me I would receive the Eucharist and I am one who does not take the Eucharist lightly. Anyway, that is my two cents for what it’s worth… teachccd
