I have two excellent books based on the wisdom of St. Ignatius. The first, Discernment of Spirits, is a guide for the person who simply wants to follow God’s will. The sequel, Spiritual Consolation gets into gray areas where the author gives many examples of how Satan uses consolation to deceive the person as they become more advanced in spirituality, and has already obtained much experience in discernment. So Satan tries other strategies, since most of his efforts at this point are unsuccessful.
Father Gallagher, who authored both books, has often been a guest on EWTN, and his manner is very peaceful and recollected, but full of wisdom.
