I have been having a really hard time discerning my vocation. I don` t know if I want to be a priest or a brother. Wheter I want to be a part of a diocese or a religious order. Also, my mother, God love her, is not too comfortable with my discerning anything besides a diocesan priest.

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee
Blessed art thou amongst women
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus

Holy Mary, Mother of God
Pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our deaths

Amen

Praying from today’s Liturgy of the Hours:

Psalm 62 (63)
Thirsting for God

Each year the parents of Jesus went to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover.

O God, you are my God, I watch for you from the dawn.
My soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you.
I came to your sanctuary,
as one in a parched and waterless land,
so that I could see your might and your glory.
My lips will praise you, for your mercy is better than life itself.

Thus I will bless you throughout my life,
and raise my hands in prayer to your name;
my soul will be filled as if by rich food,
and my mouth will sing your praises and rejoice.
I will remember you as I lie in bed,
I will think of you in the morning,
for you have been my helper,
and I will take joy in the protection of your wings.

My soul clings to you; your right hand raises me up.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

May God, whose creation you are, to fulfil a role in the coming of the Kindom. guide you.
Your mother may be reassured by knowing that a Religious Order provides you with a community and a family long after she has gone to heaven.
In the end a vocation is God’s call not ours.

O Great Saint Joseph,
you were completely obedient
to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Pray for Richard James.

Dear Jesus, Obtain for Richard James the grace to know
the state of life that You
in Your providence have chosen for him.
Since his happiness on earth,
and perhaps even his final happiness in heaven,
depends on this choice,
let him not be deceived in making it.
Obtain for him the light to know Your Will,
to carry it out faithfully,
and to choose the vocation
which will lead him to a happy eternity.
Amen

Praying to help you in your discernment …

Praying that the Holy Spirit will guide you in your discernment process and that you will meet with your vocations director in your diocese for further help. May you consider why you would want to be a brother over a priest and ask yourself if your reason is a good one. May you ask your vocations director what he thinks about your answer…maybe you’ll both find you actually have a vocation to the priesthood. You’ll be in my prayers. May you look more deeply into becoming a priest; we need more good, holy men to become priests at this time of scarcity of candidates. Maybe you could go where you are most needed.
