Good morning and happy Friday. I have been thinking about my faith lately and about some reading I have been doing on the Carmelites. And I was thinking about the nature of my faith.

How many of you feel like you have a child-like faith? (I don’t mean this in any derogatory way)

How many feel like you are on the other end of the spectrum and feel you are skeptical and difficult to persuade?

I feel I have a child-like faith. I feel it is a good thing when it comes to my spiritual life for the most part, although being to trusting in work and interpersonal relationships can be problematic. I’ve looked at other religions and denominations and haven’t been swayed away from Catholicism as a result, but when it comes to my Catholic faith, I don’t feel any struggles with belief. I haven’t really experienced a crisis of faith to any great extent. Is this a bad thing in your opinion? I do at times reflect on things like false prophets and worry that I may not be able to discern them for what they are because I can be so trusting. Discernment is something that does worry me because of my wanting to trust and believe in the good of people.

On a related note, do you sometimes do things to bolster your faith? Every so often I will read the accounts of Eucharistic miracles or read about the lives of the saints such as Anthony of Padua or Francis of Assisi or Padre Pio or of the Blessed Mother at Lourdes or Guadelupe. Do any of you do this as a means of reaffirmation?

Just some meandering thoughts on a sunny Friday morning.

That is great you have a child-like faith. Read Holy Scripture too. Remember what Jesus said: “They who are mine know my voice.” Keep reading the saints but also immerse yourself in the Gospels and the Psalms and the Epistles. You will get more and more familiar with Jesus’ voice and by doing so will be more and more be able to discern the false voices. Keep your child-like faith. That is a gift!

It sounds like by your questions, you are still trying to search and grow in your faith. I find reading the bible everyday, listening to talks on Catholic radio on Ewtn TV, and reading spiritual books has helped me grow more in the faith. We are never fully grown in our faith, we continue to search and know God more and more everyday till we leave this life here. I think it is wonderful you have childlike trust in God, that is a beautiful thing. May you keep strong in your faith.

Thank you for your kind words. I am actually trying to finish St. Augustine’s Confessions right now and recently picked up a pocket Ignatius Bible to read at lunch time and such.

How many times in the scriptures old and new testement are the words “Little” implied and in the New testement liturly by Jesus many times. Yes the Carmilites are the little way of divine acceptance of Faith like Abraham Moses Elijaha Gidion Noa and many others who without seeing God followed His command. That is the childlike faith God wants ALL His people to have.

Having a child-like faith is great.
Jesus also teaches us to be innocent as a dove and smart as a snake.
