Here is the problem for orthodox, observant, faithful Catholics in Toronto: no one listens to us and no one cares about us.
We can’t accomplish anything without having common ground for understanding and community. What we need is a Parish Life program. This would happen in every parish. Here people would learn about Life, what living fully in Christ means. What it means to their marriages, to their employment, to the children, to every aspect of their lives. When people begin to learn that this is useful to them and valuable, then they will be ready to start learning to defend it.
The flock is lost among the wolves. Wolves outside and inside the Church. If you think it is bad in Toronto, try Ottawa. At one Church in Ottawa liturgical abuses are the norm. The priest himself participates in them. The Rosary and the Litany of Saints are openly mocked by parishioners. Try having a conversation with the parishioners and they pull out their anti-Church lists which, for all intents and purposes, are identical to the anti-Catholic tracts of the Jack Chicks. Sheesh. With Catholics like that, who needs Jack Chick?
We need change now and we can’t wait until the priests wake up. By change I mean going back to teaching which is always and everywhere true. I don’t recognize my Church anymore. I am not comfortable there. I am not comfortable among many priests, many nuns, many parishioners. What they believe and what they publicly espouse is something I have only encountered in Jack Chick tracts.
