**Walt Disney World resort gave an ultimatum to a Santa lookalike who was visiting the park Sunday, warning him to ditch his festive gear or get out.

J.D. Worley, 60, is used to being mistaken for Santa Claus. But it had always been something that brought him joy, until a recent visit to Disney World…

…Disney, however, would prefer that the park’s official Santa Claus remain the one and only.

"They told me I either needed to alter my appearance or I needed to leave the park because I was impersonating Santa Claus. They told us that Santa was considered a Disney character,’ said Worley…**

And the Disney caracter, and all the other Santa Clauses, are caracatures of San Nícolas.

See!!! People always tell me I’m crazy when I assert that Disney is a sinister socialist plot ! 😛

Talk about egos. If that were true, they would have to sue every store and every person who portrays Santa. Have they done that? I do not think so. Further proof of why I do not like Disney.

Not only that, Santa Claus as he looks now was originally developed by the Coca-Cola marketing department, not Disney.

Disney has alot of nerve. I’m sick of Disney. They used to be better back in the old days. Now they have gay days, and they have alot of nerve to kick out this nice man.

Didn’t they not allow long haired people or something like that, in the 60’s? They had some weird rules at Disneyland I remember.

Not that I approve of all things Disney, but in this case I think they are right.

It is thier theme park and they have the right to stop the ‘non-Disney Santa’ because he would cause confusion for thier guests. The people who attend Disneyworld can pretty much expect a ‘certain’ behavior from all the characters. Seeing a guy dressed as Santa would imply that he is with the Disney cast. But he’s not. He’ impersonating. Maybe he is crude and rude. This would reflect badly on Disney. Let him go be Santa someplace where he won’t be confused with being part of the Disney regime.

I’m kinda tired of Disney getting rapped all the time. A simple search will show that at least last year, Disney held a religious type service in which a Quior was singing religious based Christmas songs and Dick Van Dyke in between songs was hosting and reading passages of Christs birth from the Bible. All on Disney grounds in 2005. YouTube has video.

I have to totally agree with this. It would be the same thing as if someone showed up at the mall in their own Santa costume, with their own little throne, and set up shop next to the mall’s hired Santa. It’s confusing to the patrons, and could be generally disruptive.

Disney is, regardless of what or how you feel about them, a corporation which has the right to define what is allowed and not allowed on their own property.

Now saying that they own Santa is a way over the top, but for the rest of it I have to agree with their motivation. There is no reason the guy couldn’t show up in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts and have a good time just looking Santa-like. If he looks THAT much like him, I’m sure a fun time would have still been had by everyone, and no harm done. He didn’t need to show up in THE SUIT.

This is correct. When on Disney property, you agree to abide by Disney’s rules. I don’t know about WDW, but Disneyland forbids costumes on guests. Also, they have their own Santas working the parks (one at Disneyland and one at California Adventure). It’s sorta like why there’s only one of any character around the park at a time (one Mickey is out or one Goofy, etc.) to avoid confusing the guests (especially kids).

This is called Candlelight and they have it every year the first or second weekend in December at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. I haven’t gone but I would love to one year.

Well… Disney can pound salt, and have all the sour-grapes they want.

They’ve got their knickers in a twist because they didn’t invent the now common image/ideal of what “Santa Claus” looks like.

The white bearded, red-suited, rotund man that nearly everyone identifies as “Santa Claus” was the product of a man named Haddon Hubbard Sundblom. He created over 40 oil paintings used for advertisements by the Coca-Cola company, starting in 1931.

Really, Thomas Nast? Cool!

but still not Disney 😉
Admittedly. But the fact remains: Disney sets the rules for proper attire in their parks. If they don’t won’t folks running around in costume, it’s company prerogative.

Ran into my former pastor (he has been assigned to another parish) this afternoon. With his white beard and red vestments, he might be mistaken for Santa Claus, too.

Fact: Santa used to mainly be seen in green. but coke started useing adverts with santa dressed in red. Coke Didnt come up with the idea of santa or his tradtions. They just made popular the idea that he dressed in red. end of fact

As has already been pointed out, that’s not a fact. It’s a widely repeated falsehood.
