We read that we should respect governing authority, and that the Church has binding and loosing power on earth and heaven.

What do you guys have to say about people who defy authority or the church?

For instance, the other day some women were arrested for a sit-in at a church in New York. The church was being closed. They mentioned they would even defy the archbishop if necessary to continue services.

The media plays this up, and may even inspire people to defy the church. Whatever happened to good old bearing-with-the-cross? Who decided that the Lord can’t act in ways we can’t fathom?

I think its best to be obedient, and loyal to the authority of your country, but never submit to laws that force you to sin (like worshiping Cesear).
To the church, we must be obedient, and to be otherwise would be rebellion against Christ if it had to do with infalliable teachings.
I’ve never been one to trust rebellious attitudes very quickly, and I think it’s wise to remember all mortal sin is a rebellion against God, in favor of an evil will.
