My Fiancee’s colleague is trying to get married in a catholic church in mexico. the bride is protestant the groom is catholic. She is taking online precana but doesnt have time to finish the classes before their trip to the church and family and stuff. how does she get a dispensation or find a bishop or something to assist them? it seems there is some cultural and language barrier ntm terminology. I have been trying to assist as she’s asked me for help from a distance. is there anything I can do to help them have a successful wedding in the catholic church in mexico? I think she needs a dispensation from the bishop. they thought there was disparity of cult but I dont think that is the case as they are both christian and willing to raise children in the church. any help would be appreciated.

The groom’s pastor would be in charge of the marriage prep including the proper dispensations/permissions.

The groom needs to start with his local parish pastor. The pastor does the premarital paperwork, including permission for mixed marriage or dispensation from disparity of cult.

If the parish in Mexico is not the groom’s territorial parish, his pastor would coordinate with the pastor of the parish in Mexico as far as permission to marry there.

The best way to help your friend is to encourage him to talk to his pastor.

I think the best advice you can give them is to look in to the matter themselves. Information passed down via “telephone” often wastes a lot of time and is transmitted incorrectly.

so we found a deacon and an archbishop as a last resort. I think everything is going to work out for them.
