In many secondhand sacred books I come across, I find memorial cards tucked in (the ones from the funeral home) for people I have no relation to or knowledge of. What is the proper way to dispose of them? I know they’re not blessed but I would feel guilty just throwing them in the trash as they are akin to a prayer card. Any thoughts?

Maybe save them in a place, and on the Feast for Poor Souls, pray for them by name.

Or pray now, a beautiful rosary, or appropriate prayer for Release from Purgatory for them?

Perhaps you’ve got these things in order to pray. I tend to look at this kind of thing as an opportunity to pray…

When I find a prayer card, I see it as a sign that I am called to pray for this unknown person and add their name to my little memorial book. I have a great devotion and care for the Holy Souls.

Internet searches sometimes come up with more info on the person.

For myself, I would not get rid of them (for the reasons given above), but if I had to, I would burn them. I could not just throw them into the trash.
