For the second time in the space of a year, I have found tracts from a non Catholic religion in my church(the last time was the Watchtower society, this time it is Evangelicals), I don’t know how many other times they have done this but I have found them, and disposed of them, twice.

My church does not have very many tracts or booklets explaining the principles of our faith for visitors, or even for our own congregation. Is it alright for me to buy these booklets and tracts with my own money and put them in the church? Can I put some in the pews or is this going too far?

God bless

Peter

Well in my parish there are loads of brochures, so I guess it’s alright, although you should ask the parish priest/bishop first.

Sure you could and I’m sure your pastor would appreciate you doing that, talk with him about it. Let him know that you found the others, he may not be aware of them.

They are aware. I brought it to his attention before and he just said there was nothing he could do. Still, if he’s unwillint to dispose of Protestant tracts I can’t see him objecting to me distributing Catholic ones.

When my parish had a problem with non-Catholic literature being left on Church property, the pastor rounded them all up and returned them to the offending group with a thanks but no thanks. 😛

Toss out trash that accumulates in the parish foyer, you’re doing good volunteer service that no one can rightly object to.

However, there are bad priests who fill their racks with ‘U.S. Catholic’ magazine and similar junk – and ignoring non-Catholic literature placed there – Are they too lazy to look in their own church’s vestibules? Such lack of care is a sin.

If I see sufficient junk in a vestibule that a priest -wants- there I know not to -go- there.

Oh I had to go into the foyer yesterday at Mass as I was looking after my nephew, he kicked up a stink so I had to carry him outside. As I looked around I saw a tract with the title ‘‘Where will you spend eternity?’’ I recognised the text as Protestant jargon, so I tore it down, then I saw another, and another, all over the notice boards, and two near the doors. I shudder to think how many were taken home by unsuspecting parishoners. Needless to say they all came down.

There is very little Catholic literature at my church. Rather, I should say there is a lot, but it is not noticeable. Hidden in rarely open back rooms and in a stairwell. I will order some booklets from the Catholic Truth society and distribute them at the next Mass. Will also stop in early to have a look for this Protestant evangelist. May visit his church with some literature of ours.

Good on him. I only wish mine would do the same.

Courageously and virtuously done! 🙂 Amen!
