I’m no better than the next man however as a Catholic I feel I can come on here to find sone encouragement regarding the Catholic Faith. I wholeheartedly believe in the Catholic Doctrine and precepts. I have also defended the Catholic Church on quite a few occasions. However the report regarding McCarrick was disappointing and a huge blow. Now the Dallas Morning News has reported that 6 more former students alleged sexual abuse by priests at Dallas Jesuit Prep.

I know this happened years ago however the Cover Up, the admission of Homosexuals a position within the Church, and allowing these individuals to continue working within the Catholic Church is extremely disappointing. I don’t hate anybody but the root of the problem obviously seems to be permitting Homosexuals to have a position within the Church.

You’re right, this scandal is hard to deal with. We have to keep in mind that we follow Jesus, not human beings in the church. Since these events happened, a lot has been learned about abuse and abusers. It used to be believed that such men could be rehabilitated, so well-meaning bishops sent them to rehab then transferred them quietly to new parishes. They didn’t realize that rehab or counseling didn’t work.

I’ve heard that kids are 100 times more likely to be molested by public school teachers than priests, so there’s that. Not too comforting.
Stay close to Christ and pray for his church and for holy priests.

Very disheartening. But I am glad the word is getting out. No more secrecy! May it end here!!

Once the homosexuals are gone from our “purer” church, who shall we go after next? 🤦‍♂️

Sexual abuse is done by heterosexuals and by homosexuals. It is also done by right-handed and left-handed people. And by blond(e)s and brunettes and bald people. I understood the Church teaching to be that homosexuals were to be treated with respect. Saying, or implying, that they are child abusers seems to me, as an outsider, to be inconsistent with that teaching.

Homosexuals are no more likely to be abusers than heterosexuals. And male pedophiles who prey on boys are not necessarily homosexual.

But yes, the scandal in the church is very disheartening. Abuse just went on, higher ups knew, and justice wasn’t served. I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes on Judgement Day.

According to the president of the Catholic League, Dr. William Donohue, PhD, the vast majority of molesting priests were homosexuals. Also, he has a book coming out verifying this: Disabling the Catholic Church: The Truth about Clergy Sexual Abuse.
According to Dr. William Donohue, PhD, progressive Catholics “and their allies in the media, continue to talk about the “pedophilia” scandal, when the fact is it has been a homosexual scandal all along.”

Also, there’s a difference between pedophilia and pederasty. Pedophilia is when very young children (i.e. prepubescent) are sexually abused. Pederasty involved pubescent and postpubescent minors (i.e. teenagers). Most of the incidents involve teenagers and adults.

No, the root of the problem obviously seems to be permitting sexual abusers to have a position within the Church. It matters not what gender they abuse, as there have been quite a few clergy who abused girls and women, and quite a few who abused young people of whatever gender happened to be available.

Most gay people are not sexual abusers.

If it’s that long ago, I reckon all the clergy involved are either dead now or have one foot in the grave like McCarrick.

While I don’t wish to be insensitive to any victims dealing with trauma from 30-50 years ago, I’ll admit to being more concerned about the abuses that have happened/ are happening recently, such as the Fr Wattigny mess in New Orleans.

Uh what now?

People keep making these distinctions between pedophilia and ephebephilia or whatever they want to call it. They seem to think forcing oneself on post-pubescent teens is more of a sexual desire thing and less of an abuse crime. Which is incorrect, and also, the law will prosecute an adult who grooms and abuses a teenager under the age of consent for the state, just as it will prosecute an adult who grooms and abuses a child.
