Disturbing truth or rumor? I'm hoping it's a rumor

Recently we had a parish conference and a young deacon, (parents belong to the Parish) attend, and sing the Gospel (Feast of the Assumption). He is attending the Major Seminary in Detroit, but his orthodoxy seems to be rock solid (no pun).

However, upon ordination next summer, he will be assigned to Lincoln Neb diocese. This was something he firmly requested. It seems that he recognizes the pressure of becoming a new priest, and would not accept assignment to one of the many “liberal” parishes under the “guidance” of Card Maida. Can’t blame him at all. And there are more and more like this young man coming through the seminaries each year… replacing the old liberal priests who have wreckovated the church. Praise God

Well the operative word is ‘veteran’ soon they will be dead to meet their reward… 😃

I left Detroit not long before Edward Cardinal Mooney passed away. Sounds like the old archdiocese has been in tatters ever since. Didn’t CTA get its start there? Our parish here in Wisconsin was assigned one of these new young guys. I couldn’t offer any criticism of his orthodoxy. Our pastor is a good man who was also quite orthodox, but he was and is a kind of live-and-let-live kind of guy. This new fella started working on parishioners to challenge the pastor and before too long we had nothing but devisiveness in our Catholic School, Our Church, and to some extent even in public for all to see. It has not been pretty. He has moved on now to a new assignment, but continues to stir the pot from a distance. It is sad to see Christians turn to meaness. John in Revelation reproved the Church at Ephesis because they had gotten so busy wrangling over truth that they had forgotten the love expected of Christians. In many parishes in our diocese we are lucky to have a priest come into town on Sunday to offer a Mass. Can’t be too picky whether Father is liberal or conservative. Blessed just to have the Eucharest available.

Detroit Sue:
There was a big meeting of veteran priests in the Archdiocese a week or so ago. They are up in arms about the orthodoxy of the new priests and seminarians. There was a claim made that these guys want to go back to Vat I celebration of Mass, but that is nowhere near the truth. Some of the priests attending allegedly refused to take on newly ordained priests if “these kind of guys are being ordained.” The sad thing is, I’m inclined to believe that at least some of this is true. Supposedly, the seminary is looking at men who may be too “rigid.”

This information came from a reliable source in the diocese, which is why I’m so upset about it.
Let me guess, these very liberal priests are the common typical age range for liberal priests: OVER 45???

I guess then that that diocese prefers the very liberal ones who will cause scandal. WE MUST BLAME SOME OF THESE BISHOPS!!!
REAL Bishops are= Chaput of denver, and Burke of St. Louis, oh yes, also Olmstead of Peonix, and the two great Bishops of Nebraska. MOST of the rest::hmmm: .

More to that point about generational views.

A co-worker about my age (40’s) said that the church is not that relevant to his life. He made it clear that he can’t image the church surviving that much longer.

I said that’s okay since you thought it was your ecological duty not to have children then your views die with you and mine go on through my children.

His expression was priceless as it went from smug to dumbfounded to beet red livid as he realized that everything that holds to be true would be laughed at a couple hundred years from now.

I think this is exactly what some of the counter cultural priests and deacons must feel when they see the post Vatican II babies take their spots in the parishes. The old guards know that the church culture they promoted will be judged in time and nobody wants their life’s work to be known as the 20th century heresy.

No need for a revolution time is a relentless antiseptic; it takes care of the unfruitful quite ruthlessly.

Let’s pray that more priests embrace the truth of the Church that is being lead by John Paul.

God Bless
I agree. Also, lets all give the Church another 25 years=most of these liberal V.II SPIRIT guys will probably be too old to be taken seriously.

If young priests are coming out of the seminaries filled with conservative and orthodox ideas, then someone in the seminary must be teaching these ideas. The place to look, therefore, is in the seminaries. Incidentally, this is not confined to the USA. Similar complaints are being expressed in the UK and in South Africa, where I was for many years.
Thank GOD!! These guys are being taught by CATHOLIC clergy. No such thing as “conservative” Catholic(those are POLITICAL terms) only CATHOLIC and NONE Catholic teachings, and well, thank God these REAL priests are learning CATHOLIC teaching, not the “spirit” of V.II. Thank God, the non catholic clergy are aging fast, or some are or have been removed for scandal.

We are also seeing this in the Byzantine Church as well.

My pastor is 48, and he is in line with the restoration of our Liturgy and traditions which were lost when our rite ancestors came over to America. Our parishes became Latinized in the 1940’s-1980’s.
WIth the blessing from JP2, we are able to restore out Liturgy and traditions.

The resistance comes in the form of the older priests and the laity, who think the ‘new’ ways are NOT what they grew up with. Actually, the ‘new’ ways were their ways.

Another parish is merging with ours, and there is a struggle to get both parishes to co-operate. The majority of the problem comes from the, you guessed it, the older parishoners. Each parish as a ‘older unofficial spokesperson’ who might lose their ‘power’.

orthodoxy will win out, as the Truth never lies.

Go with God!

In 20 years’ time, all those who opposed Vatican 2 and stubbornly reisted the work of three great popes, together with all those who twisted the meaning of Vatican 2, and introduced trivial and “liberal” ideas, will be dead,or gaga. They will probably be still arguing about it!

Sacred Heart got the best recommendation I every heard the other day.

I ran into the Liturgist at a former parish I belonged to. We used to but heads a lot over some of the stuff he tried to pull (very ‘progressive’).

He was kind of surprised that I had been accepted into the Deaconate program, since I have small children.

He said he looked into it a few years ago but was told that they preferred candidates with older\grow children.

I remarked that he could apply again (strictly out of politeness).

He replied that he didn’t want to, he didn’t like what they were teaching at the Seminary these days.

Coming from him, that was the most ringing endorsement of orthodoxy at SHMS I’ve heard in a while. 👍

I’ve always thought that newer priests will be more orthodox since liberal families would unlikely produce priests. They teach their children all that they think is wrong with the Church so why would anyone want to serve such a Church. More orthodox families love the Church the way it is and teach that to their children. Their children will also love the Church and want to serve it.
Most liberal families only have 1-2 children. The last thing they want their sons to do is to “throw their lives away by becoming a Priest.” Orthodox families have many more children and encourage their sons and daughters to pursue religious vocations.

REAL Bishops: also Olmstead of Peonix
Being in the Diocese of Phoenix, I have seen real changes since Bishop Olmstead took over. For the better. He even joins in prayer outside the abortion mills. What a beautiful example!

On another note, my granddaughter, who was raised in a very liberal atmosphere, had her Rite of Acceptance this Sunday last. She is 22 but very orthodox in her Catholic thinking. I’m wondering; is the orthodoxy of a lot of our youth a backlash against the liberal mindset of the past 40 years? If so, it’s about time! 🙂

YES!!! I agree he is a GREAT AND REAL!!! BISHOP. He is taking in NEW and very faithful YOUNG religious orders there. Hopefully a great one soon to be there is: www.iveamerica.org

Those guys and the nuns (full habit very young nuns) are EXCELLENT!!! Ignatian, Thomistic, and 100% faithful to the Vatican. They are YOUNG Roman educated priests (most have a minimum of S.T.L. LICENTIATE from PONTIFICAL Roman Universities). Thank you Bishop Olmsted you are a blessing for the Church in Arizona.

Here’s another recommendation: one of the most orthodox Catholic men I’ve ever met (a fellow parishoner and former fellow choir member) was ordained to the permanent diaconate in October. He was an SHMS student and was ordained by Cardinal Maida. I know if he had had doubts about what was being taught there, he wouldn’t have gone through the program, so I take this as a sign that SHMS is moving in the right direction. 🙂

You have Steve, right? Did you see the ordination on TV? It always takes my breath away when the men prostrate themselves before God.

I’m so surprised it’s still on the AoD website, but here’s a pic of my husband’s ordination, October 4, 2003. He is standing right next to the Cardinal, on the Cardinal’s left.

Yup! Steve and his wife are such great people and faithful Catholics.

Unfortunately I missed the ordination. We have WOW cable, so we get general EWTN instead of CTN/D. Our choir was invited to sing with the archdiocesan choir at the cathedral (because Steve used to be one of our basses), but I was out of town that weekend. 😦

Cool photo of your husband’s ordination! You must be so proud.
