I realize that this is possibly selfish, but I can’t help it. I WANT a divine experience, in which God himself speaks to me from the sky. I need a Moses burning bush -type event.

I know that the Holy Spirit is always with me and is always guiding me, but is it so wrong to ask for things to be a little more black and white? Is that such a crime?

I think we’d all love if God would speak to us in a big, booming voice, or give us a burning bush-type event. I don’t see desiring such an experience to be wrong, but if you were to start demanding such an occurrence as a validation of faith, that wouldn’t be good, since we aren’t supposed to test God.

If you truly believe the Holy Spirit is with you always, that in itself is quite an experience, right? 😉 Perhaps you can focus on the “little” daily miracles all around – the beauty of a flower, the kind word from a stranger or friend, the miracle of a newborn baby – I know they’re not quite “burning bushes” but they’re pretty spectacular when you really think about them. 👍

Also, you can experience Jesus in adoration – He is actually present there, so that’s definitely a divine experience. ❤️

God knows weakness of each one of us. For this, He reveils to us differently. If He knows you really need to have such experience where God speaks to you from the sky, He will do it with His Will. If He knows that you would come to believe Him more by different mean, He would probably choose this mean. This is because He says that blessed are those who do not see but believe.

I?
God knows what you need and when you need it. Not for us to dictate to God the manner in which He speaks to us. It remains only for us to listen to Him in the ordinary manner in which he speaks, through SAcred Scripture, through the Church and its teaching and preaching office, through our personal prayer and reception of the sacraments. If he needs to get our attention, you may be sure he will do so.

Are you SURE you want this? Think about it. This kind of experience usually carries with it some big responsibilities. Read the OT, NT, lives of some saints with personal revelations, and see what I mean 😉

Find a really really really beautiful meadow, sit in it at the most beautiful time of day, think of the wonderous children’s smiling faces in the world that you can, remember how many of those beautiful faces never made it out of their mom’s, start crying your heart out, and never ever stop.

You will be stopped by God.

Now, are you SURE you want a “divine experience”?

UPDATE: The following is NOT a joke or a coincidence.

Right after I posted this, I watched Passion of the Christ for the first time. Ten minutes after watching the Holy Spirit did visit me. I couldn’t help but crying. I felt a huge wave of happiness, guilt, joy, remorse all at the same time. It was most likely brought on by seeing Jesus’ character being crucified and I got my wish of having some sort of experience.

I know that some of you may feel like this isn’t real, but I know it was. Every emotion that could possibly hit someone at one time did. I literally broke down crying. Has anyone ever had this before?

Praise to our Lord! How 'bout them apples? Our Lord heard and answered!

I haven’t had an experience exactly like that, but, then, I’m not exactly like you. As someone said earlier, we’re all different and our Lord knows our strengths, weaknesses, and needs even better than we know them. He knows how, when, and where He wants to “speak” to us. We just need to be open. As someone mentioned, quiet time before the Blessed Sacrament and/or quiet time after Communion are wonderful times to listen – quietly, patiently, and expectantly, IMHO.

And, as someone else mentioned, would you really want our Lord or our Blessed Mother to come and speak to you in a vision? While that would be wonderful, it would carry quite a huge responsibility. Look at what it cost the children at Fatima, Padre Pio, St. Faustina, etc. Yet, for all they had to bear, I’m sure they had no regrets. The Lord knows best. We need to proceed at His pace and in His way. God bless!

Yes, the tears come when you know deep in your heart how much love God has for you, and how little you have in return. You think about your whole life and how little you have done for Him and how much he has done for you.

You have had the spirit visit you in your heart, now you are tuned to the wavelength of heaven. God’s voice will come to you in many different forms, you just have to be open to it. Sometimes it could be someone you know saying something that they wouldnt say, meeting someone on the train, noticing a well placed sign that you wouldnt have noticed otherwise. Jesus is everywhere all at the same time, and if you keep your eyes open sometimes you will catch a glimpse.

Having a full out vision/apparition of Jesus and the Virgin Mary would carry a great responsibility with it. Remember, those who are given more will be judged more strictly. Jesus could totally appear to everyone if he wanted to, but we must have faith in him, that he is there for us.

Here is a link to an experience that i recently had:

Peace be with you,

I think it would be helpful to remember the words of Our dear Lord to St. Thomas…

"And after eight days, His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being closed, and stood in their midst, and said, “Peace be with you!” Then He said to Thomas, “Bring here thy finger, and see My hands; and bring here thy hand, and put it into My side; and be not unbelieving, but believing”. Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”. Jesus said to him, “Because thou hast seen Me, thou hast believed. Blessed are they who have not seen, and yet have believed”. (John 20:26-29)

I think there will be a high degree of happiness in Heaven, for people who struggle with faith… but nevertheless… persevere. Why? Because Jesus said so. Hope this helps. God bless. 🙂

I was NOT a Catholic at the time I saw the movie.

I was not even a Christian. I was your typical hyper-intellectual “scientism-worshipper” who had this “spirituality” thing all figured out. I was “spiritual” by being “good” and seeing quantum-chance as the “random element” of the “God who is Watchmaker”, who started his machine and let’s it run without interference.

Then I saw that ONE DROP of rain from the sky falling toward our Lord, and the BOOM of it’s striking the ground like the Fist of God in abject vengence at what had just happened…

…and I knew I was wrong, and that God had just crushed my heart with his very hand, and given me a new one in it’s place.

The tears, at least inwardly, and occassionally outwardly continued until I discovered I was a Catholic, which was a year and a couple of months ago.

Once I made that discovery, my tears changed from sadness to thankfulness, but I now know they’ll never ever cease.

I’ll be baptised this Easter.
