I am reading the Divine Mercy in my Soul Diary of Saint Faustina Kowalska and am about 50% done. During the reading I was shocked to hear that Jesus has said that he is preparing us for his second coming and it will be soon. Has this being accepted by the Catholic Church as true? Are the words reported to be said by Jesus in the Diary to be accepted as his truthful sayings? Can I trust this to be Catholic Teaching? Has anyone else read the Diary? Has it helped them lead a better spiritual life?

Hello Steven,

I am glad to know that you are reading her diary. It is a good book to mediate on, isn’t it?

Read the book of Revelation, it says a lot about the last day.

By the way, when you read her book, do you use her prayers as yours? I use them all. There is one that I use when I go pray in front of the Tabernacle/Holy Eucharist. See item 365.

Private revelation, such as the visions of St. Faustina, are binding only on the visionary, not on all of us. Once an apparition has been approved by the Church, we are free to believe it but not required to believe it. Remember that God is outside of time, so when Jesus says “soon”, He is not necessarily talking about soon in our sense of the word. On the other hand, since no one knows the hour of our death, our soon may be at any time. Better to be prepared all the time than to try to figure out what Jesus meant. Remember that He said that only the Father knows when the end of the world will occur. Just make sure that you are ready whenever it comes.

Peace,
Linda

Dear Steven,

I too am reading St. Faustina’s Divine Mercy Diary. I’m on Notebook II, paragraph 927 - I read a page or two a day. I learn something every time I read it. It honestly speaks to my heart in so many ways. Many years ago I tried reading it, but couldn’t finish it - I probably wasn’t ready for it at that time.

“Jesus has said that he is preparing us for his second coming and it will be soon.” We don’t know what “soon” is. Remember when Christ said to his disciples “this is a wicked age” does not simply mean he was only speaking of those in His presence. You have to think how long is an “age”.

So, as I’ve often thought, what would I do if I knew Christ’s second coming was eminent. Aren’t we taught to live every day in the Will of God. Even the apostles thought Christ would be returning soon. Christ saying He was preparing us for His second coming through the Divine Mercy proclamention (sp?), is true, but that preparation may mean 100 years. Don’t worry, just pray.

This work, having an imprimatur, was declared as being free from doctrinal or moral error.

I also ask St. Faustina, every morning, to pray for me. I don’t know if it’s my imagination, but I really feel close to her (maybe it’s our ancestry 😉 ).

I am so glad that our Church allows private revalations. Not to get off topic, but has anyone read Revelations of Divine Love, by Julian of Norwich?

I hope it *is *“soon” in my definition of the word 🙂 But Jesus’ idea of “soon” and my idea of “soon” are probably two very different things.

The key point is not that is it coming soon, but to be prepared for it to come at anytime.

Be ready.

The Second Coming of Jesus or your death can occur at any time including now. Are you ready?

i dont think I am… I got angry today… can someone suggest something to curb my anger?
also, i was interrupted 3 times yesterday when i was doing the chaplet of divine mercy at my desk

Thank You for the answers. I believe that you are correct in that it is more important if I am ready. The end will come when God is ready. I will concentrate on my preparedness. 😃
