Divine Mercy Sunday Mass question

Does anyone know if the Divine Mercy Sunday Mass is the same Mass that would normally happen this Sunday, because at my parish they are offering a separate Divine Mercy Mass and devotions? (which btw is great!)

I mean is the same readings and Gospel read during the Divine Mercy Sunday Mass than the Mass normally scheduled during this Sunday?

The 2002 Latin edition of the Roman Missal only gives one set of instructions for the Mass on this day. There seems to be the alternative name, but nothing else.

The title has:
“DOMINICA II PASCHAE
seu de divina Misericordia”

(Missale Romanum, Libreria Editrice Vaticana, 2002, ISBN: 8820972719, page 386).

One of the things about the Second Sunday of Easter that makes it such a perfect day on which to celebrate the Divine Mercy is the very fact that the readings are what they are - the institution of the Sacrament of Penance. The readings are the same, whether the Mass is a special one for Divine Mercy or the regular Mass of the day.

The celebration of Divine Mercy at a particular Mass would include the veneration of the image, the praying of the chaplet, etc., but no change of readings.

Today is still the Second Sunday of Easter but it has the additional name of Divine Mercy Sunday.

The problem that I have with it is the addition of the devotion from St Faustina as that is a private message and should not be pushed as the devotion is not part of the Deposit of Faith.

These devotions usually take place outside of the Mass itself (before or after Mass) or at least they should, and no one is forced to participate. It’s like the common (or at least common where I am) practice of reciting the Rosary before Mass - this devotion is not part of the Deposit of Faith either, and no one is forced to recite it if they don’t want to. Lots of Marian devotions are done at my parish, for example, but the priests are careful to have them happen either before or after Mass.

The devotion is done during the afternoon, to have at least some part of it coincide with 3:00 pm (the Hour of Mercy); not during Mass.

The Mass is just the normal Mass of the Second Sunday of Easter.

Our parish celebrated the 2nd Sunday of Easter and the priest stated in his homily the difference between a devotion and a liturgy and how since Divine Mercy Sunday is a devotion he does not have it as part of the mass and he mentioned how it is not his devotion. I wasn’t surprised based on how I know ths priest to be but still I was kind of upset by this since based on what I’ve read on here the past week or so it seems like the Divine Mercy Sunday shoud be an important part of the Church. I was also kind of disappointed since I never had done a novena before of anything so the Divine Mercy Chaplet one was my first one and it would have been nice for Divine Mercy Sunday to be celebrated.

This makes sense. So basically, the divine mercy part is not really supposed to be there.

Thanks for all your posts. but I did not read them until not long ago. In the mean time I also found out (as I understand it) it was the same Mass. But during the afternoon Mass there was Confession available and Divine Mercy devotions. The church was full which was good.
