There is nothing to stop people from going into the church and reciting the Chaplet and saying other prayers. Since it is a SUnday, most have gone to communion already. The only other obligation for the indulgence is confession, which could have been done within a 20 day span, and prayers for the pope. Of course detatchment from all sin. There doesn’t have to be a formal service, although that would be nice. You can even bring you own small picture and venerate it. Perhaps if quite a few people gather and do this on their own then next year the pastor will allow a formal service. This is how it started in our parish. Now we have a sung chaplet with expostition and benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and a permanent Divine Mercy picture in our church.

This is why I asked if I could bring materials to spread the devotion. And offered to buy an image for the church. I was pretty much told flat out no.

Jesus asked that His priests help spread the word of His Divine Mercy. I just do not understand the negativity towards it.

I had planned on just staying after mass and saying the prayers myself in the church but I am glad I found a parish that is having a special service.

I sent an email to our priest earlier this week asking about DMSunday. Last year, our old priest didn’t do anything for it. Seems like that’s the way it’s going to be this year as well from my priest’s answer. So I asked him if there’s anything I can do to further the devotion and celebration in the future. I asked if I could put pamphlets or prayer cards in the vestibule area with the other free info. And I even asked if I could buy a DM image for the church for future veneration. The answer I got back was that he has no plans for any time of public celebration of that devotion now or in the future.

That’s got me bummed out. Part of what Jesus asked Sr Faustina was that the priests help spread this devotion. It seems like many priests aren’t interested in doing that. And it’s discouraging to see my priest take the opposite path.

Thankfully I found a local parish that’s going to have a DM prayer service with confessions and the chaplet and reading from St Faustina’s diary. So I’m planning on going to that. But what do I do about my parish/priest? Other than the obvious praying for him to change his mind?

When I went to confession saturday, I asked my priest about the indulgence and he had no idea what I was talking about… Good thing I DID!

To a person that has not gone to confession in a year a priest stated during the individuals confession on Divive Mercy Sunday,that God may not forgive this sin because the person commited mortal sin by going to communion last year with the mortal sin of missing one Sunday mass over past 12 months.

Is that correct- Very upset 😦

No. God always forgives a contrite heart. Maybe find another confesssor?🤷
 
I just got back from the DM celebration at one of our local parishes- I feel so jazzed about it all right now!:bounce: :extrahappy:
 
I went to the Divine Mercy service at the other local parish today and it was great! There was a huge turnout, there were many people there, and there was huge lines for confessions. I saw an old friend of mine who didn’t know I was catholic, too! It was a very spiritual celebration, and in confession I got an answer to something I’ve been asking God about for a while. And I met a nice young priest too. I’m glad I sought out the celebration and went. Thank you God for such a wonderful feast!

Hogwash! ask your priest to please refer to the catechism … then tell your bishop! Jesus never gave qualifiers as to His mercy on this day in particular! You can read it for yourself in the quotes from St. Faustina’s diary…
