Howsoever attenuated and abbreviated, the Divine Office has been a staple of Byzantine parish practice, for both Orthodox and Churches in communion with Rome.
The special services of Holy Week are expansions and elaborations of the Divine Office, mostly of Matins: Bridegroom Matins of the first days, Passion Gospels (usually anticipated on Holy Thursday Evening), Lamentation Matins (usually anticipated on Holy Friday night), and so on.
Do the other Eastern Churches (whether in union with Rome or not) have similar customs for Holy Week? Please share them here.
I’d be very interested.
