What exactly does the Church teach divine providence to be and what role does it have in an individual’s life? Is it like fate or destiny? Can providence protect an individual from harm?
It is a recognition that God is ever-present and ever-active in our lives and the lives of others. Perhaps “the activity of God” would be one way to put it.
This concept is thoroughly explored in Self-Abandonment to Divine Providence by Fr. de Caussade. A wonderful book for reflection, best read slowly.
