In my experience with the fathers of divorced children, or children out of wedlock, there was intense anger and violence. In one case I was younger and disreagarding divorce. More recently I encountered an unwed mother an thougtht “how attached can this guy be if he didn’t marry her?” In both cases I found violent men who wanted to tell “their” woman what they could and could not do. So much so that the unmarried fellow came and tried to kick down our door.
What my point is centers on the fact that these breakups can create situations that are out of control with regards to the children. Now I am not going to tell a woman to stay around such a fellow. On the other hand gun toting felons that threaten to crash down doors present dilemnas such as be a pacifist and let myself and possibly my father and sister get hurt. Or stop him if he gets in the house with the degree of lawful force permited. All of this is sad for the children. In one case the unmarried woman had a court order keeping him away. Yet she felt an infant son should get to know his father, so she disregarded her own court order.
In movies they depict these conversations ex spouses and new spouses have with the partner of both. In fiction there are these measures dramatic scenes. I guess it happens. However, having seen two close to worse case scenarios, I do not want to get in where confronation abounds. I believe a husband can not come to grips with the terms of family a court gives hims. The potential for misunderstanding and worse is great.
