My daughter would like to marry a non-Catholic young man who was married previously. His ex wife was a baptized non-practicing Catholic and they were married outside of the church. Because of this improper form, the process should be simple, however the ex wife and her family are not willing to provide any baptismal information other than the verbal statement of her father (through a cousin) who confirmed that she was baptized Catholic in the Philippines. He has said what diocese she was baptized in but is unwilling to sign anything as a witness. My daughter has had very little luck with contacts that she has made to the diocese in the Philippines and has even researched hiring a detective agency there to research the matter for her. (Which she found to be extremely costly). At this point they are beginning the annulment process but are hoping that they can find the information they need and not have to go through the long process. Any suggestions?

The diocesan tribunal staff may be better able to get a response from the diocese in the Philippines.

Remember sacramental records are not public records so your daughter has no standing to request another person’s baptismal records— but the tribunal certainly does.

Have your diocese contact the diocese in the Philippines and go from there.
