Please provide a source on Africa and especially Indonesia. I read a lot and have nowhere seen that Islam is anything but growing in Africa and Indonesia. Muslims will soon be a majority in Nigeria which is why all the tension over the growing movement to impose Shir’a there.
Indonesia is overwhelmingly Muslim with the religious minorities basically static. Islam is growing quickly in hindu dominated India, Why the reactionnary stance of some Hindus - the country is gradually embracing Islam. Now about 17% of the population. Chriutians are stagnant - at about 3% of the population. The pentecostals are growing but that is offset by the Catholic loss.
The figures for Islam in Indonesia are unreliable: the State requires everyone to be one of 5 religions, and Islam is the default one. As for links, this was stuff I actually saw and heard muslims say and wrote in their periodicals in the Arab world. They were quite upset.
Btw at the same time they were reporting numbers of conversions in the US that would indicate we all should be muslim now here. As a result, the Christians in the Middle East were keen on accurate information.
In Nigeria Islam was, and had been since colonial times, THE dominant religion. No more.
In the early nineties I knew someone who lived in Kano, the center of Islam in Nigeria (sort of what Munchen is for the Latin church in Germany) when the trouble and rioting started. He said that the radio broadcast first reported that over a 100 churches had been burned, and then the broadcasts didn’t mention numbers. Why? The Christians in the heartland of Nigerian Islam noticed that they saw churches that were NOT burnt, and as a result started asking "If over a 100 churches have been burnt, and not all churches in Kano have been burnt, how many churches are there? How many of us Christians are here?
The previous president of Nigeria was a Chrisitan. The one before him was Muslim, but the point was that he was from the South rather than the Muslim heartland of the North.
