Do any Catholics on here go on Protestant forums and evangelize?

To evangelize or to correct their misunderstanding of Catholicism, eg. they seem to misunderstand the issue around Marian devotion. If we enlighten them, they might stop passing on this misinformation about catholics? Some interfaith interaction would be good for both sides.

I used to for a few years, and I hope it helped some people. Others remained utterly obstinate and continued to post the exact same errors that were demonstrably refuted. Such behavior will likely never go away in this fallen pilgrimage. But you never know when seeds were planted with any specific individual.

I would stay away from such sites. I dont know your level of study in catholism but if its not strong and you cant answer their questions they will make have doubts about your faith. So God willing, you do not waste your time 🙂

Generally speaking - No I don’t. Mainly because I am not an apologist and also a bit too thin skinned for the atmosphere in such places.
That said, there is one protestant board that I look in on from time to time and try to share as needed either to correct misunderstandings or to answer questions.
The nice thing there is that, with only a few exceptions, no one is really “Anti-Catholic” and everyone is pretty charitable in their discussions.

That said…I think that, while it is certainly a noble venture…trying to get people to stop spreading misinformation about Catholic teaching is like draining a lake with a teacup.
Such misinformation is going to continue to be out there and spread around by those who (mostly) just don’t know any better - but who have been “trained”, either consciously or unconsciously, to reject anything “Catholic”.

Peace
James

For me, it’s hard enough talking to them face to face…

There is no way I could go on a forum and type all day…not only that, I don’t have the patience or knowledge…I’m too old for arguing…lol

Hello 123Strontium,
I used to post on an Islamic forum. There came a point when I realised that I was probably getting more from it than anyone else. One of the drawbacks was words only. No body language can be read so the mood or intention can be mistaken. Some things are far better said face to face.
There are forums on the internet that are of no particular denomination. On such forums things can be very heated on matters of doctrine. Who should those outside of the faith believe? They might be doing more harm than good. What is witnessed is division rather than unity. So its’ best really to keep off such forums. Our involvement could add to the confusion.
It is best to just refer people to forums such as this one and to Catholic Articles rather than get involved as far as the internet is concerned.

I often go on to a forum where there are both Catholics and Protestants and sometimes I will correct their misunderstandings and try to instruct them when they post something about theology which is clearly false. For example, if someone posts something about the “rapture” I will post and show them why the rapture is false.

No.

I finally fell to temptation and visited a site that has some notoriety among inter faith Christians. It did not bear good fruit and lasted 2 hours. They deleted my text that showed their founder was deliberately misrepresenting our faith. That is a form of lying.

When you are dealing with someone who is deliberately misrepresenting, the devil is in the details and you will never win. It is a spiritual battle.

Likewise in decorum, we do not go to other forums to prosletyze, same with those from outside who come here.

If I see a misrepresentation I generally post that they should check out Catholic.com. I do mention that there are message boards here. If I can provide a person with resources where they can debate and read about TRUE Catholic beliefs then I like to think it helps them to get to know who Catholics really are.

True that it can get quite heated in arguments lol. I have arguments with my protestant friends but I’ve found (oddly), that it’s strengthened my catholic beliefs.

But yes, I understand what you mean.

No, I just listen to them here.
Lol, that’s true by the way. (in ‘some’ instances). I speak up to highlight protestant assumptions to catholic answers even when they’re labelled catholic, in order to clarify to any catholics that might not know what protestant assumptions are. But I’m still developing.

I’m active on two other sites but nowhere to the degree I am on CAF. It’s a time issue.

But I DO agree its something we need to do:thumbsup:

I just got into it for the first time on fb with my step-sisters pastor…I replied to a post she shared from him…

My step-sister deleted me after she bashed me on my wall…

I didn’t even reply…

We’ll reconcille eventually…lol

I tried once to explain to a Protestant on a parenting forum that she was wrong when she said the Catholic Bible doesn’t have the verse Matthew 23:9 (call no man father). It didn’t go well for me and all she had to do was Google or go to a bookstore. I think there are some who know what they’re saying is wrong and don’t care. They believe what they want and no amount of truth will make them see what they refuse to look at.
