I’m curious if I’m the only person that attends more than one liturgy on Sundays? It’s usually the early Mass followed later by an eastern Divine Liturgy. Sometimes like today though, it’ll be different.

I have to take a ride to a neighboring city to hit Costco and Wal*Mart (neither are allowed locally.) I think while we’re there, we’ll stop for Mass at a very nice Franciscan-run parish. It will dovetail nicely with the Mass I already experienced this morning.

I used to enjoy ducking into the Saturday evening Mass, but it has become such a noisy zoo that I avoid it now – but the Sunday evening Mass is excellent.

Sometimes, if I am called to minister through my music at one or more additional Masses on Sunday, or if there’s a special event Mass, or if a Mass is being said for one of my intentions… These would all be in addition to my regular 8:30 AM Sunday Mass where I am part of the choir.

Sometimes, due to my work, I need to attend several Masses in order to give announcements (I work for Catholic Schools).

This is often true because my husband works Sunday mornings. Today, for instance, I am giving announcements at Masses in the morning, and then he and I will attend a Mass later today at 5:00.

We don’t normally intentionally attend more than one Mass on Saturday evening/Sunday, but it is always kind of interesting to get different takes on the readings during the homilies if we do go to more than one Mass.

In my conversion process I often attended Mass both Saturday evening and Sunday morning. I continued to do so until I moved away from that parish. While my personal preference is a Sunday morning Mass, I will attend Saturday evening if I know I can’t make the Sunday morning Mass.

Occasionally I will attend 2. Usually it’s because I’m at the Saturday vigil for some reason and then want to go again on the Sunday. Sometimes it’s to try to get a plenary indulgence on each day so I need 2 communions and other times there is a special Mass or something I want to attend.

I’m trying to plan how I could go to two Masses consistently. My child goes to a school where the pastor insists that all the school families attend Mass there weekly. Fair enough. I also see a lot of value in going to EF Mass, and I like my children to be exposed to that as well. So, I’m trying to plan how I could get to both fairly often. My tentative plan is to attend our local parish Mass on Saturday night, then High Mass on Sundays at 10:00.

That’s not his call. How does he go about enforcing this? I would send him a letter underscoring that you and your family attend Mass every Sunday, but that do so at different locations from week to week.

I think it partly has to do with the fact that school families receive a discount if they are parishioners, and there’s that whole envelope thing…
I don’t think it’s a bad thing, and then the priest can make sure there are enough servers. My kids enjoy seeing their friends at Mass, and chatting with them afterwards, and the school choirs are involved with Mass too. I have to say, we have a wonderful new music director, and the organist / music director does a very fine job.

I would write him a letter explaining that you prefer to attend the EF Mass from time to time and because the EF Mass is not available at your parish, that it should not impact your school discount.

See how he responds…

Well, I got this idea from other families that do this (attend 2 Masses per week). I really think the priest wants to see everyone there every week.
