Did Catholics hate Orthodox followers?
Edit: Some people told me that Catholics hated Orthodox followers in the past because of disagreement and two sides defame each others.

Not in my experience. Most of the Catholics I know are barely even aware of Orthodox churches as anything other than something they learned about in a history class.
 
It wasnt so much Catholics versus Orthodox as it was Western europe versus Turkey, Greece, Syria, etc… The conflict was endemic and indicative of wider geopolitical division in the region and time period.
 
The priests just the opposite :-).Some parishoners brand them with some negative comments.

Hate is a strong word for any Christian.Everyone of us should be tolerant and for unity

I don’t think so… the Catholic Church is multi Cultural and has been for her whole existence and the Roman Rite has been multi-cultural for over 500 years.

While the Orthodox tend to have national Churches and not be multi-cultural.

In other words, prejudice against Orthodox by Catholics is no where near the same level as prejudice against Catholics by Orthodox.

The Catholic Church teaches that the Orthodox Church has valid Holy Orders, therefore, valid Sacraments. As for Catholics hating the Orthodox, I think this is highly unlikely. Misunderstandings, certainly (on both sides), but hate, I don’t think so.

I think there are probably some Catholics that dislike Orthodox and some Orthodox that dislike Catholics. We can’t really make blanket statements.

Hard feelings likely exist particularly in countries with state religions and ethnic/religious minorities-- these countries have histories that include violence and suppression of religions by the majority in their pasts on both sides of the equation. Certainly in the very distant past there were Western and Eastern Empire political issues and rivalries that encompassed aspects of religious adherence, but we are talking 1500 to 1000 years ago, the very distant past.

What is it that you really want to know?

Again… “hate” no.

You have to understand the cultural issues of the past. Rome defeated Greece. The Greek people are a very proud people, and being subjects of Rome was never something they were happy with.

So when Constantinople became powerful (from a civil point of view) many Greeks felt it should become more powerful in a religious point of view too.

Because to the Ancient Greeks, your religious leaders were located where the civic leaders were.

But Peter didn’t go to Rome to cozy up with the Emperor, he went there to spread Christianity because “all roads lead to Rome” as they say.

So there has always been a little cultural bias against the West from the Greeks (even if unconscious), but same cultural bias doesn’t exist in the West against the Greeks because the Greeks never conquered the West.

It is going to depend on which part of the world you are talking about. In most places, no. However, in Croatia, there was a lot of animosity against the Serbian Orthodox Church during WWII. And today, in some parts of Ukraine, there is a lot of hostility against the Russian Orthodox church.
 
OP, I feel like you have been very misinformed on many things. Are you considering RCIA bychance?
