Yeah, the above all falls into custom. There’s no intrinsic reason why the right knee is for God and thus we must use the left knee for a Bishop. It’s all just customary originating from somewhere or sometime. Would be interesting to know which came first, or if they developed at the same time hand in hand.I suspect too that the left knee is to avoid confusing this with a genuflection which is an act of worship reserved for the most sacred Sacrament. It wouldn’t do to “worship” a bishop. He is not God.
