I was just wondering: if a person converts to Catholicism later in life, does he/she have to go to confession for the sins that he/she committed before he/she was Catholic, or just the sins committed after converting?

Hi,

Yes, as with all Catholics, if the person was previously validly baptized, he or she would be required to confess any and all remembered mortal sins. But if the person has not yet been baptized, then Confession would not be necessary because the reception of the sacrament of Baptism would remove all previous sins.
