Do Eastern Catholics say the RC Creed?

I hear the English Masses are going more Apostles’ Creed now that too many were still on the old translation of the Nicene Creed, which is now illegal. “And from the Son” isn’t an issue with the AC.

I myself never bothered memorizing the English Nicene Creed.
The old translation is not “illegal”; it is merely not the translation on the books, and not the one being promoted. To say that the older ones are “illegal” is to say that that which is not currently on the liturgical books is illegal, and could be sinful to recite. Taking this logic, one could say that the original Nicene Creed (the one fashioned at the council of Nicea, before the amendment to it at Constantinople) is “illegal”. And I highly doubt anyone would wish to say such things.

Also, I would encourage you to memorize the English Nicene Creed, given that the Nicene Creed is the ecumenical creed of Christianity. Of course if you recite it in Greek or Latin, that is fine too. 😉

English, no way. (I’ve already spent too much time in my life criticizing it.) In Latin all the way. But I respect the Greek version, and given some of the arguments here, that might seem worthy of memorization as well. The Pope apparently has no problem with the Latin or the Greek.

English is indeed a fickle mistress… I mean language. Yeah, language. 😉
I would then suggest, if not memorization, then familiarity. That way you can at least have a basic idea of the it, and be able to refer to it when needed. 🙂

I should hope that he has no “problem” with the original, as prescribed by an ecumenical council!
