Do I commit mortal sin when I consent to some hateful thoughts?

Like if there is a bully in your school or in your workplace who hurt you either physically or financially and wants to make a fool out of you, then you had a lot of temptations of hatred against that bully. I know the devil would grab this opportunity to give you a lot of hateful thoughts against that bully who harmed you.

If I also consent to those hateful thoughts like (“yeah go to hell jerk”, or “why don’t you just die” or “Fyou”) do I also commit mortal sin and thus I have to confess it? Sometimes after a few minutes after I cool down I tell myself “Oh please forgive me Lord for thinking that way”

Our anger can be used very wrongly, and consent to hatred is sinful. To hate is akin to killing, so yes, you should confess to harboring hatred for another. It is a grace from God, however, that has brought this up in your conscience so that you do confess it and obtain absolution for it. God does, indeed, bring good out of bad; we just need to pay attention.

Edited to add: You may want to do a search on this forum to go over the often-referenced guide to what constitutes a mortal sin. 1: Grave matter. 2: Full knowledge. 3: Deliberate consent of the will.

The thoughts you say do seem to be grave matter, but only you can know if you gave full consent with full knowledge to do them. I suggest speaking with your confessor about them.

I should add, though, that if these thoughts are the result of bullying, you should definitely speak to someone about this, and perhaps get some professional psychological help for this.

Jesus said in the Bible: “He who hates his brother is liable for the judgement of Hell.”

You cannot hate anyone.
You may understand some could be unlikeable, a bully, a dictator, or possibly a very evil person, but you cannot hate them. Jesus asked us to pray for our enemies.

We do not have to be best friends with our enemies.
It may be unsafe to do so.
We just need to pray for them. Without judgement, that is Gods job, although it’s okay to recognise if something the person is doing or has done, is gravely wrong

Jesus said, “The judgement you judge with, will be the judgement that is judged upon you.”
“Judge not, and you will not be judged”

Many may disagree with me. I think there is less culpability for hateful thoughts if you are honestly being abused. The Lord’s standard is high but we are only human. Try to distract yourself from these thoughts. Pray against them. I think they are wrong but it is difficult for me to think these thoughts are grave sins if they are the result of abuse. Ask a priest please. Separate yourself from this person as much as possible to avoid the abuse

Unfortunately Jesus standards are high.
There are no loopholes.

He didn’t say we can hate those who have wronged us.
He said, “He who hates his neighbour is liable for Hellfire.”

The Our Father includes the words, “Forgive us, as we forgive others.”

So if you hate and don’t forgive someone, and never confess or repent,
You cannot get into Heaven.

I read books and testimonies about this, of people in the deliverance ministry.
There are dozens of people suffering psychological problems which are actually from lack of forgiveness.

A famous person in the deliverance ministry was praying over a woman who had cancer. He told her, “Your cancer is because you don’t forgive your husband who had an affair. If you do not forgive him, no amount of hundreds of rosaries will get you into Heaven.”

uh I never said they were not sins. I gave him advice to avoid them. I may disagree with most people but I do not necessarily think all thoughts or feelings are mortal sins. I do not condone them either. I do think the person being bullied is less culpable. It makes me think of a woman who throws herself at a man. Surely the man should be strong and resist the temptation but who presented the temptation. Perhaps this is an issue I cannot fully be objective about. I had many different people bully or abuse me in different ways. Do I love them? I avoid them or try not to think of them. I am just being realistic or humanizing the situation. Then again St. Maria Goretti forgave the man who raped and killed her. The standard is high.

How about “I forgive them” but I will try to evade them as much as possible
Am I still forgiven by God?

Do not talk or engage yourself with someone who is a bully. Try to overlook their offenses to avoid anger. Surround yourself with positive people. How to forgive them pray. Try not to talk too much about the situation. If evil thoughts come to you distract yourself.
