Do I go to the union and risk bullying and losing my job?

Anyway, the day after the incident, I ended up spending almost a whole day at a hospital clinic instead of work. I had been told the previous day by the Emergency room attending Doctor I needed to do that, and that I shouldn’t return to work that day.

I had assumed this day away from work would not be taken from my own entitlements, but I have been told by the “incident/injury manager” via email (I work for a large organisation) I have to put it down as sick leave. I have yet to respond to that email.
Fellow Australian here.

This incident is covered by workers compensation. It does not have to come out of your pay. That is absolute bull. Legally they cannot require you to take the hit personally.

Call the union. Let them know what is happening and ask for their advice. They will have a good understanding of Australian work place health and safety law and workers compensation. They will be able to tell you exactly what your rights are and the best way to approach the company.

Calling them does not mean you have to get them involved with the company. That may be their advice or they may give you some steps to follow with the company first to see if it can be resolved without getting all legal with each other.

Ring the union. This is what you pay them for.

I live in Canada and we have all kinds of labour laws. Sadly, depending on your employer, they are just on paper. HR often does NOT ensure fair treatment.

Praying for you

I see the dilemma. It is a tough one. On the bright side, that means you should feel free to act as you want and just trust you are doing the right thing, whatever it is. No one here knows your job or the personalities involved. If I was your boss, and in between you and pressure upstairs, I might try some compromise solution that would compensate you and keep them happy. Yes, you are entitled to workman’s compensation, meaning all of this should cost you nothing. Maybe there is more than one way to accomplish that.

Small point that may help you decide. In esence thisis not just about you but about others hwo may be hurt etc if this is not set right.

I am in a roughly similar situation. I was outright discriminated against re a house I viewed to rent because I am on Rent Allowance ie Social Welfare, The landlord you see has to give his name and tax number and declare the income…

In this case, the landlord said outright in an email that that was the reason
But I have a niggle …if i need a house in that area…

I have made contact with the relevant authorities but not acted yet .

This issue was added to the list of illegal discrimination only this year and as rentals are hard to find it is going to penalise disabled, old, families,

But maybe we have to think of others as well as us?

Thanks so much for the prayers and advice all. I was actually able to say the rosary today for the first time in months, and I wondered if it was because some cafers prayed for me, so thankyou 🙂 and the safety stuff doesn’t cause me as much anxiety this week, I’ve asked for further clarification - and haven’t really got a straight answer yet. But this no longer causes me anxiety, it just seems like another work problem to approach in an open straightforward and polite manner, even if that means going to the union eventually. I’ll wait and see for now.

Please make sure it cannot happen again, Sight is precious and vulnerable.

Yes, I’ll do my best on that Rosebudd77.

I have been pestering them so much about safety issues. I think they are finally realizing it’s much easier to simply fix all the safety issues rather than discredit me…

They have at last introduced proper induction process (including the distribution of safety glasses) amongst other safety improvements. 👍
