Do I have to be invested with the Brown Scapular to wear it?

Last night, I was going through my box o’ religious articles and found a brown scapular that was given to me years ago. I’ve never worn it, but I put it on and I’m wearing it now.

The question it, should I be? Or should I take it off and wait for the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and be invested with it before I wear it?

BTW, I am a daily rosary pray-er.

No, you do not have to be vested into the Brown Scapular Society to wear the scapular. You can have the devotion to Our Lady on your own.

Follow up question…
so do the graces apply even if you’re not invested and does it have to be blessed to wear it?

Put it on NOW, and find a Priest to bless it properly. But here is something from the FAQ page of The Rose Scapular Company

Our answer is put it on anyway and wear it faithfully, try to get to a priest to enroll you if you can. Otherwise we leave you in the hands of the Blessed Mother and Jesus, they often work miracles as we have seen so many times with the Scapular.

BTW, that was what I did in July 2006. Plus the Green Scapular for conversions. Got those two scapulars (and also the 5-fold) properly blessed once I was Confirmed

Yes, graces apply.

Don’t look at wearing of the scapular superstitiously. It is a devotion to the Blessed Mother in that we place ourselves under her protection. The devotion is from the heart, not from the physical act. It is a devotion of love toward Jesus and His mother. The graces received, are received because of love, not because of the action of wearing the scapular.

Hope this makes sense.
