Hi

I work in Accounts and I saw on the central computer a list of our monthly salaries. Without thinking I opened it up just to check my salary. I didn’t consciously look at any salary save mine(I can’t remember anyone else’s) should I confess to this? 1) To a priest 2) To a boss (I am worried they will take it the wrong way).

Having reflected on this I realise It may be confidential information  Help me !

I personnally see no need to confess this. Your motivation was to see your own salary and no one elses.

Although, I would not do it again if you experience pangs. It is confidential stuff but your own salary is not, right?

I would say, be at peace, no need for scruples…🙂

It seems to me that this was an honest mistake on your part, or something you did without realizing it may have been dishonest, in that it may have been a matter of confidentiality.

If you truly did this without intention of looking into something you knew to be off-limits, I suppose there is no need for confession. But perhaps, when in doubt, just confess it? :whacky:

You could maybe just ask someone of authority if that was off-limits to you and, if so, apologize. I’m sure they would appreciate your honesty.

Thanks, I suffer from scruples. Maybe I’ll ask a priest next time I go to confession and try not to worry in the mean time

Thanks for your answer.

D’oh! This is one of those times my memory gets jogged:

I was in the same situation as John at work this summer. When I was filing records I came across a salary/wage listing, but when I came across the list I actually DID look at it. I did feel bad and I knew it was wrong, so I guess this is something I should confess, right?

I agree with everyone else. You did not intend to do something against policy so I don’t think it is a major sin.

But, not having worked in a job where I would have access to this type of info, I wonder why you checked to see your salary?

Don’t you already know how much you make? Or were you checking to see if you got a raise or something? I’m not intending to be offensive so please don’t take it that way. I am just curious.

I can’t see a big deal, but I’m not a priest…Why don’t you just confess anyway? Its not a big deal and it teaches humility.

It was the first time I was on the monthly payroll. I used to be temporary staff
