hey all–just had my marriage blessed via a radical sanation (which recognizes the marriage at the date of the ceremony)–paperwork will be received today. Prior to the Bishop’s granting of it, I went to confession as it had been 30 years or so since my last one & I felt a real need to unburden myself. I explained to the confessor my situation & confessed–he absolved me. I did not recieve communion subsequent, as I was awaiting word regarding my marriage request. I have seen several comments here in regards to having to live as brother and sister after confession & awaiting a convalidation ceremony. Does this also apply to radical Sanation? Neither my confessor nor my Pastor mentioned this to me in confession or during our filling out of the paperwork. My concern is I do not want to receive if I am unsure the confession is valid, nor do i want to reconfess 30 years of sin if I am not required to. I believe it was, given the sanation recognizes our marriage for day 1, but i am no expert. Any help would definitely be appreciated.

It sounds to me that you properly confessed, you received absolution and provided you refrain from any sexual activities until the marriage issue is sorted out you would be able to receive Communion.

Hi Thistle–it is all sorted out & our marriage has been recognized as of the date of our civil ceremony. While we did not refrain from conjugal activities, I know i need to go to confession before I receive, but just wanted to ensure the other confession was not invalidated. Radical Sanation is a different animal & not well known. Didn’t want to short change my confession today 😉

CONGRATULATIONS :bounce: :tiphat: How wonderful that you are in a blessed marriage. My daughter and son’in’law had their marriage blessed and they said that it seemed as though the small pettiness and strife went away. May you have many blessed and happy years!!!

When in doubt-ask you priest about being able to recieve Communion.

Thanks Rebecca! Same here–since I have found my way back, everything has seeming fallen into place. guess the Spirit works in mysterious but wonderful ways. I believe I will be ok for communion after today’s confession–I have found a few things that confirmed what i thought.

thanks!
