I need some advice, and I’m not entirely sure how to start.
I’m an “exploring” catholic. I have been attending Mass for several weeks now, and would like to begin the process of RCIA. I was baptized LDS as a small child, and have been voluntarily separated from the church for many years. My husband was originally baptized LDS as well (and actually served a full mission with them), but now claims to be somewhere between Atheist and Agnostic. I’ve been searching through prayer for a long time, and have always known in my heart that Catholicism is truth.
Here is my concern: can I ever become a true Catholic without convalidation? We were married just under a year ago. Because of religious differences, we opted to have a close friend ordained a minister to conduct the ceremony. I believe that our marriage is valid, but fear that the Catholic church will not see it that way. I have spoken to my husband at length about it, and he is unwilling to return to religion, in any way. In fact, he refuses to speak to the priest or attend with me. I have made my peace with this. and simply want to practice my faith with acceptance and a clean conscious.
I know that my priest would be the best resource to help me through this, but how (and where!) should I begin???
