Like many people here, I own several Bibles ranging from the King James Version to the New Revised Standard Version. My one Catholic Bible has been the RSV-CE. I greatly enjoy the translation of the text, since it’s only one edition behind the NRSV, and use it for all my primary Biblical purposes (e.g., studying, reading, research, etc.). I do not own a Douay-Rheims Bible, and while I understand the significance of the Douay-Rheims Bible in context of the Church, I find that I’m not especially fond of the translation and I can’t even begin to fathom when I’d possibly use it since I’m quite spoiled with the RSV-CE. Why should I spend money on one when it’s likely just to collect dust? Or is it just good “Catholic manners/sense” to own at least one copy?
