A few days ago a friend asked me a small question about an assignment in class. I answered him, believing that it was probably OK to do so.

I later found out that we were not allowed to discuss the assignment and what I told him might have very well counted as a minor case of cheating. I was acting completely unmalicious and out of ignorance. Also the information given would have had very little effect on over all result.

Now I don’t know if I need to come clean about it to my professor? Any advice? Note: I struggle with scrupulously.

Hmmm… No I don’t think so- you didn’t know and it was an honest mistake. Cheating is taken very seriously in universities, I’m not sure you would want to get expelled over an honest mistake. And knowing professors it would probably just annoy them.

You acted without knowing it was not allowed to discuss it. Be at peace.

And get help for your scruples from a priest, not strangers on the internet. That will only get you lots of contradictory replies that will only drive your scrupulosity.

You’ll just cause trouble that way. It’s no way to make friends.

You didn’t know, so there was no intent on your part to help your classmate cheat. I don’t think you have to say anything.
