Do I need to go to conefession, and going to often

A few questions…

I went to confession frequently lately and once after struggling with imppurtiy i did a private confession and the priest told me I didnt have to go so often. but i felt in a state of mortal sin and I hate that feeling and not being able to go to the eucharist… is going too often like he said bad, im unsure if i am too scrupulous,

Yesterday I had been chatting with a women from the internet and after we exchanged some pictures I made some comments that was a bit out of my christian character are these to be confessed too? Im not sure if it was mortal or not it was a spur of the moment sort of and I did not continue in those comments I told her i was a christian and we ended the conversation on a good note,

am itoo scrupulous, or does even this have to be confessed? my hear t tells me it does, but is it enough to say sorry and move on, or is this a seperation from me and god?

If you have fallen into impurity in thought, word, or deed- go to confession! And you are a little vague but if your comments were lustful or would have been denigrating or disrespectful of anyone’s dignity as a human person made in the image and likeness of God Himself than you should confess this too.

If you think you may be scrupulous you will need to talk to a wise priest and be fully honest with him. Perhaps set up an appointment with a priest you trust from your parish. You really should do that anyway as gleaning spiritual advice from random people on the internet is not the most prudent of measures.

First of all find yourself another priest.Blessed John Paul II went to confession every day and Pope Benedict XVI goes at least once a week. If you are in mortal sin you can not and should not receive the Eucharist. If you want to receive the Eucharist everyday and are in mortal sin you need to go to confession everyday. It couldn’t hurt to say the rosary everyday.
 
The priest probably knows you better than anyone on an internet forum. If it were me, I’d follow his advice, whether it be for more frequent confession or less. All this talk online about “priest shopping” seems Protestant-like to me. A little more humble submission to authority/obedience and a little less worrying would probably do all of us good. 🙂
 
yes the nature of what i did was disinegrating (is that the right word) or the dignity of her and i did confess this today and feel glad that i did…

i do not like priest shopping either i did not go to that one because i was hsoping but it was the only church available at the nearest time that day, i am going to submit more to the priest and not go to the eucharist if in sin,

i pray that over time i will be able to discern between right and wrong a bit better i think that takes time

Back when I was going through the RCIA the priest gave us a great book, kind of a Catechism for those of us who aren’t theologians. It’s called Believing in Jesus: A Popular Overview of the Catholic Faith, by Leonard Foley, O.F.M. (ISBN # 978-0867169393). I’ve referred to it often in the past 15 or so years, and read it straight through I don’t know how many times. I think it would help you out too. It doesn’t have so much of the technical terminology, which I think is good, and it’s sections dealing with morality (sexual and otherwise), and venial/mortal sin were so helpful for me. It shows the Catechism numbers too if you want to dig deeper. All of our consciences need exercise, and the virtue of hope could always use some improvement too. I think this book could help you with both.

A person who is scrupulous, or who does not understand mortal vs venial sin, should ask for advice and receive confession from one priest only. Coming to the internet to second-guess advice given in confession or the gravity of a particular sin is never a good idea.

Going to confession regularly and frequently is a good idea. However, you should still follow your priest’s advice. What sometimes happens is that someone will make a resolution to go to confession more often, they will begin going weekly say and then start to over think their behavior and find themselves in confession several times a week, rehashing the same sins. That can often be unhealthy for their mental state and their spiritual one and unfortunately that same person can despair and stop attending confession altogether for a while. And then the cycle repeats.

I highly recommend that someone coming to (or coming back to) a deeper practice of their faith make an appointment for a general confession. Then do not go back to those sins. Move forward with a good examine, and regular monthly or weekly confessions. Seeing the same priest each time also means that someone IRL is guiding you.

A regular confessor is not the same as a spiritual director, but is a good practice as well.
 
Listen to your priest, unless he is giving you some advice that you know is objectively wrong. Your post indicates hints of scrupulosity. Listen to your priest.
Saints tell us that Christ loves obedience, (ref. St Faustina for instance, who was obedient to her superiors even when treated with cruelty).

If you don’t have St. Faustina’s diary, I can’t recommend it enough. If it’s not in the budget, there’s always the Divine Mercy site run by the Marians of the Immaculate Conception. LINK
There’s a ton of great information on there that would be helpful. Plus it’s free, can’t beat that price! 👍

It’s unclear from the info you gave what is meant by going “too often,” but if there’s any shadow of a doubt that one has sinned gravely…don’t delay going to confession. Despite how ubiquitous they are, acts of impurity (thought, deed, etc.) are usually grave matter, and the confessional is the only place where you can work out whether or not they were mortally sinful.

Scrupulosity exists. But truly scrupulous individuals fear sin in the most morally neutral actions. The two situations you mentioned here sound like they could both include grave matter - i.e. matter for the confessional.
