The Bishops of Illinois have chosen to use the statement Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship as the basis for deciphering Social Issues in this coming election.

This document is about as clear as a whiteout in Minnisota in January.

Go to the blog by Dr. Jeff Muris at www.catholicculture.org/commentary/blog.cfm?id=193 to see his commentray on this. In part, he says, The bishops correctly state that one may not vote for a candidate who advocates an intrinsic evil (such as abortion) if one is motivated by a desire to advance that evil. They also correctly allow that it is conceivable that one could, under unfortunate circumstances and for a very grave moral reason, vote for a candidate who advocates an intrinsic evil, because the voter has some other weighty end in view. I call this obfuscation of the real issue, abortion, no clear guidance here. But because they offer no practical guidance on the extreme unlikelihood of such a circumstance in contemporary America, this is where the discussion bogs down.

Read some of the statements of such Bishops and Archbishops as Bishop Joseph Martino of Scranton OH,a very courageous man and a leader of his flock, who is now being attacked by the secular press and Cafeteria Catholics for his strong stance against abortion mommylife.net/archives/2008/10/why_i_am_a_sing_1.html
