Do Independent Old Catholic denominations still celebrate the Tridentine mass?

By Old Catholic I mean the Union of Utrecht churches?

I live in Switzerland, which has a sizeable Old Catholic community belonging to the Union of Utrecht. Those I know basically celebrate the Ordinary Form.

They also are in full communion with the Anglican communion.

Here is a picture from an Easter celebration in Lausanne :

I’d note that “Independent Catholic” and “Old Catholic” often mean rather different things. There is a group calling itself the Independent Old Catholic Church, but I don’t they are the Old Catholics you are thinking of.

One can say that they are theologically liberal. The schism occurred, among other reasons, because of their position about papal infallibility, and since then they green-lighted the ordination of married men, of women, and they have no problems with same-sex marriage. I’m not sure how they make it work in their sacramental theology, but they also have no issues with divorce.

“Safe Distance” not an issue in that region? (Refer to posted photo).

I hate to say it, but that tabernacle looks like a microwave oven. UGLY.

I don’t know specifically about Union of Utrecht churches, but I do know that some “independent Catholic” congregations here and there, some of which derive their orders from Old Catholics, do offer the Traditional Latin Mass. IC churches tend to be more liberal, but there are exceptions.

At least in the United States, these churches tend to be very small and usually don’t last long. They are essentially illicit priests in search of a congregation. Many cater to niche groups (divorced and remarried without annulment, gay singles and couples, etc.). I’ve never visited one of these places and never plan to. Good people, best of intentions, I’m sure, but still schismatic.

Most don’t. However, a few might offer one mass using the Tridentine mass if their parish wishes it.

The one closest to me APPARENTLY uses the Novus Ordo for most masses and the Roman Missal for their 7am mass (which sounds like it’s a low mass, because they don’t use music or anything). But I don’t know if they do it in Latin or in English.

To be honest, there are a few RC churches around here built at the same period (70s) whose tabernacles are not much nicer. Here at least, that was generally not the best period for church architecture.

Their existence is long-standing in Switzerland (and they are one of the three state-recognized churches in most cantons, along with the RCC and the local Reformed church), but their numbers have been dwindling a bit in recent years.
