Very often when something wrong happens to me, I will get angry and it will take me a while to turn it over to God. I do eventually pray for the person although not sincerely at first.

When small things happen, for example someone cuts in front of me in the line for the cash, it is easy for me to just roll my eyes, shake my head and forget about it all in a span of 60 seconds max.

So… My questions is if I was to try to immediately ask Jesus for help in the little things, would it then become easier to do it with the big things?

Also, can people share some of the little practices they use and how that has helped them when faced with bigger challenges

Sounds like you are doing very well handling the small irritations 🙂 And that does go well towards handling relatively bigger issues without anger and stress to you and those around you.Learning not to react spontaneously takes practice and self control.
Giving it to God immediately really helps I find, making something productive of something otherwise potentially detrimental.

Thankfully, the number of tense moments I have to deal with in my life has greatly diminished. However, this time last year, my life was a nightmare and I was lashing out at any and everyone. I got it under control by praying “Come, Holy Spirit” over and over and being intentional about keeping my cool. I even carried a little finger rosary with me so that if I had to have a longer uncomfortable conversation I could say “Come, Holy Spirt” as my fingers passed over every bead. Worked wonders.

Eventually, I got to the roots of the problem. Once I address the root causes, my life and my emotions calmed down significantly.

wow, what a great response. Where can I get a finger rosary? Can I pm you for more detail?

Yes, you can PM me if you’d like.

You can get finger rosaries most anywhere they sell Catholic stuff.

They look like this:

I made myself one out of spare beads I had laying around. It’s just a circle of ten small beads and one large bead.

Remember how Jesus said “if someone asks for your tunic, give him your cloak as well?”

Next time someone cuts in line in front of you, shake your head, but don’t forget about it quite yet, let someone else go in front of you as well.

The Litany of Humility is a powerful prayer for changing our hearts:
